Wow, what a ride! I've been wanting to play this game for so long and mainly held off because of the dated controls and the supposed difficulty. I'm happy to report that neither of those were an issue!

It took me about 10 minutes to fiddle with the controls to get a WASD + mouse setup that worked well for me. You can't rebind the controls during gameplay, so it was tedious to start a game, check out the controls, exit, modify controls, repeat. But once I had them set up, I was golden.

As for the difficulty, I didn't have any issues with it. I know MDK2 is the real nasty one in terms of difficulty, but I had read a number of reviews complaining about this one. I played the GOG version and it has a Quick Save feature, which I used to ease my paranoia, but it wasn't really necessary. From what I found online, the save functionality was patched in after release.

As for the game itself, it's an absolute must play if you still enjoy old school '90s style run-n-gun gameplay. You pretty much just point and shoot, the game even auto-aims for you in most situations. The sniper rifle was revolutionary at the time and is still satisfying today, though I didn't use it much since I preferred getting up close and personal

The art style is fantastic and screams Shiny Entertainment. There's even a surprise "appearance" by Earthworm Jim! The music is top notch and overall, it's just a fast, furious, and satisfying adventure. The game only took me 3.5 hours to complete, which is a tad short, but that just means it'll be a good one to replay later on!

I started playing MDK 2 last night and it's a blast so far! I had played the demo on Dreamcast a long time ago and remember it being tough, but I haven't had any issues with that....yet. I LOVE the levels with Kurt and Max, but not sure how I feel about the non-guns 'a blazin' style of Dr. Hawkins.

I'm on level 4 (out of 10) and this game is definitely more difficult than the first one. So far, it's mostly due to some crazy platforming segments and being shot at from every direction while doing them. It's not frustrating....yet.
