Other than ticking off goals, I don't see an obvious way to post updates during a Playthrough.

I used the Thoughts feature, but I don't like that it shows up on the game's info page. I'd much rather it only show up in my feed. Worse, there's no way to delete those.

A great feature would be the ability to leave thoughts connected to Playthroughs that only show up in a player's feed and not on the game's info page.

Playthrough-related posts could be gathered up elsewhere for each game, but the main thing is to not have them cluttering up the main thoughts area, which seems more for reviews and tips.

Yeah, private, or at least, friends-only thoughts would be ideal. I think it might be on moho_00's massive and ever-growing TO-DO list.

Depending on how the site is programmed, feed-only and private options would be pretty easy to implement. Friends-only would probably be a bit more complicated.

Personally, I'd get the most use out of an option for thoughts to only appear in my feed. Private and friends-only wouldn't do me much good. Right now, I just want to keep the world updated while I do my first run in The Evil Within.

I should have put more thought into it and worded my reply more carefully.

In my mind, the options for thoughts would work like this:

Public = appears in profile + feed + game details page
Friends-only = appears only in profile + feed
Private = appears only in profile and view-able only by you

Friends-only was probably not the best choice of descriptor, but the takeaway of whatever the option is called would be a middle-ground between sharing the thought everywhere on the site and locking it down completely.

I think having a way to prevent thoughts from showing up on the public Game Details page is a great idea. Everyone uses thoughts differently and as is the case here, they're sometimes used to log progress during a playthrough. The easiest way to achieve this would be to provide an option each time you post a thought that let's you choose whether or not it shows up outside your Feed. I'm a little hesitant to add another layer of public / friends-only / private settings since we already have that across your entire profile, which could be a little confusing and will make querying the data even more complicated. Providing an option per post would be easy to bolt on...I think.

If this is the approach we take, the question then is whether this hypothetical "share it with everyone ever" checkbox should be checked or not by default. I would lean towards YES since that's how it works today, but that's going to be really annoying for someone using it like @chronotron in this instance. So we could have different defaults depending on where you're posting from. The Playthroughs page could default to NO, whereas the Feed and Profile pages could default to YES. Or instead of that, maybe have a default setting at the Profile level (which should be easier than having the public / friends-only / private setting mentioned previously).

Of course, if we go with this, then it seems like you'd need to be able to toggle this flag just in case you post something to show up on Game Details that you later decide to exclude.

That's what I was thinking! A flag that can be toggled on and off would be perfect.

Personally, as long as the flag can be toggled on and off, it being permanently defaulted to "Yes" wouldn't bother me. Other people may prefer an option in Preferences to set the default. I think "Yes, post to Game Details page" should be the default default, since that's the way the site works right now. That way, anyone who doesn't notice the option right away wouldn't suddenly be like, "Why isn't the site working the way I expect it to work?"

On a similar note, I was looking at the Game Details page and see that there are entries for completed Playthroughs, but no entries for current Playthroughs. A new spot to see who's currently playing the game (one section for Playthroughs and another for Playlist, maybe?) would be a great addition.

Cool! I think I will add the checkbox / flag to the "New Post" modal that let's you toggle between making it a public or private (for lack of a better term) post. If it's public (which will be the default), the post will show up exactly how it does today. If it's private, it will show up everywhere it does today, EXCEPT on the Game Details page. Once everyone has some time to use it, we can determine if having a default setting under your profile is something that would be beneficial or not. I added it to my task list, so hopefully I can get to it soon

I hadn't considered showing current playthroughs on the Game Details page, but that's an interesting idea. I think the challenge will be finding a place to put the content since that page has a lot of info that it's showing already. And it's not even showing everything I want it to since I still have an item on my task list to show users that have wishlisted the game. Plus we have platform / region box art that's available for showing now

Sounds great!

I don't know if you already have it planned out or not, but I think the best way to add Wishlist info to the page would be with module tabs, automatically showing the "Currently Own" and being able to select "Want" to switch the pane to the list of users who have wishlisted the game.

Same thing with a Current Playthroughs/Playlisted list. A tab system that's automatically on "Completions," and users can select the "Currently Playing" tab to switch over.

Using module tabs would let you include the new info without it taking up more space. The page would look almost exactly as it does now.

Thanks, moho_00! It's great to see this feature added.

Would you be able to un-public all the thoughts I've written so far, both for The Evil Within and The End is Nigh? I'd like to delete them from the game details pages but leave them in my feed. I feel bad that I'm cluttering up those pages so much.

No problem, they have been updated! Let me know how the feature works in the coming days / weeks and we can tweak as needed

Thank you!

I love the new feature. I can post any thoughts I want about games as I play them.

I know deleting posts is a new feature, too, so I just wanted to check: If I post something publicly, will deleting the thought remove it from both my feed and the game details page?

Excellent, glad it's working out so far! As for deleting posts, yes, they will be permanently removed from everywhere. I would like to add an option to change the public / private option in the future, just a matter of prioritizing it
