Description

These are the games (in no particular order) I have gotten my non-gamer wife to play with me and I felt that I should pass these on in case others out there are having a tough time finding games that a non-gamer would be interested in. Let me know in the comments if you can think of any more!

Wii Sports

ALSO INCLUDED: Wii Sports Resort

Who hasn't played this game and at least gotten some enjoyment out of this? Me and my wife sure have...along with my sisters, parents, AND grandparents, ALL of which are the farthest thing from gamers.

New Super Mario Bros.

ALSO INCLUDED: Basically any 2D Mario Game (1,2,3, World, etc.)

They may get killed by the first Goomba, they may not know how to use the run button, but they will enjoy themselves and have a laugh or two to boot.

Endless Ocean

ALSO INCLUDED: Endless Ocean 2

One of the most criminally underrated Nintendo franchises in my opinion and one that anyone can play and enjoy. Sit back, relax, and watch your bae play all day (see what I did there?...I'm sorry I did that)

Kirby's Epic Yarn

ALSO INCLUDED: Kirby's Adventure

The real draw about this game besides playing together, is that essentially you can't die. Non-gamers tend to get bored very easily, so if they find a game too difficult they may just up and quit without giving the game a proper try. That won't be the case with this cutesy gem of a Wii game and it may end up being one you both beat together.

Animal Crossing

ALSO INCLUDED: All of them

Animal Crossing is the ultimate time-melter and a game that is so accessible to every one. If this game was on mobile devices (which I am NOT advocating) it would probably be the highest grossing game on Android and IOS. Since it's not, you still won't have any trouble getting your sigs to play this game.

UPDATE: They just announced that Animal Crossing is coming to mobile platforms sometime in 2016 or 2017...say good bye to real life world.

Super Monkey Ball 2

ALSO INCLUDED: Super Monkey Ball

While they may not get into the main game because of the controls, the camera, and the difficulty, there is no doubt that non-gamers will enjoy the mini-games. I haven't met anyone who hasn't enjoyed Monkey Target (one of my favorite VGM pieces too btw).

Mario Kart 8

ALSO INCLUDED: All of them

Mario Kart is the quintessential arcade racer. Everyone can pick up and play (being good...not necessarily). You may be stuck playing on 50cc, but at least you will have gotten them to play and have a good time.

We Love Katamari

ALSO INCLUDED: All of them

The Katamari series is so far out there that it doesn't matter how much of a seasoned gaming veteran you are, you are on equal playing field with a buck private gamer. Prepare each other to have lots of laughs and lots of WTF moments.

Pokémon Snap

Pokémon Snap is truly a unique game. It is basically an on-rails (literally) shooter but instead of shooting bullets or lasers, you are shooting a 38mm camera. The reason I know that your significant other will like this is simple. My wife, who wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between a Pikachu and a Staryu, absolutely LOVED this game. No Pokémon knowledge is necessary at all and it's a blast trying to compete with each other for high scores.

Harvest Moon 64

ALSO INCLUDED: Pick one of the 35+ available

Harvest Moon is another niche title that you have a shot at getting your dearly beloved to enjoy. There is a chance they won't enjoy this farm/dating/life sim, but if they do, they will be hooked for DAYS.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village

ALSO INCLUDED: All of them

Puzzle games seem to be the safest bet when it comes to games that non-gamers will like. Add some great story telling to the puzzle formula and you have yourself a recipe for a classic. Professor Layton offers that formula to gamers and I haven't met anyone, my wife included, who hasn't liked several games in the Layton series.

Afrika

Afrika is basically a real-world version of Pokémon Snap with a sprinkling of Endless Ocean. Instead of being on-rails however, the game is in an open world format and you can drive your SUV through savannahs, marshes, open fields, and desserts in search of the perfect shot. You can also upgrade your camera which is cool. A really underrated, relaxing game that is sure to have capture the attention of your lover (see what I did there...capture...never mind).

The Walking Dead

ALSO INCLUDED: Season 2

PREREQUISITE: Enjoy the TV show/Comic or post apocalyptic story telling AND not mind blood and gore

The Walking Dead by Tell Tale games is a master piece in my mind. And it is a game that had me and my wife were engrossed in from start to finish. My wife refused to let me play it unless she was there to watch and/or play. It was really amazing to make decisions together and see how the amazing story unfolded. While they may not physically play the game, they will no doubt watch and also help you make crucial, life and death (literally) in-game decisions.

Mario Party

ALSO INCLUDED: Any of them excluding 9, 10, and Advance

Mario Party is basically the founding father of the party game genre. There may have been party games that came out before it on other systems, but there ain't no party like a Mario Party! The beauty of Mario Party is that it plays like an interactive board game complete with laughter, anger, extreme highs and extreme lows. Play at your own risk because much of the game comes down to luck and you know what they say about beginners...

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

ALSO INCLUDED: Pretty much all of them

The WarioWare series of games is another that takes pride in making you scratch your head and say what in the world did I just experience? Games range from picking someone's nose, grabbing a girl falling from a building, raking leaves, and drinking a glass of water. You will never know what is coming next and that is what keeps the laughter rolling and keeps you and everyone else who plays having a good time.
