Description

2016 was a good year for me scratching games off of my list. I got around to a lot of classic games that people wondered how I've never played before, as well as some newer titles.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse

This was a pretty decent title. My only complaints are the difficulty spikes in the parallel quests, and the inability to see what gear looks like until you buy and equip it.

Super Mario Sunshine

Honestly, it didn't impress. There were times that I had fun with it. But as soon as I started to have fun, the game would implement a dumb mechanic or make a ridiculously difficult level.

Age of Empires

Yeah. I'd never played an Age of Empires game before.

This one was....okay. I know that this was in early pc game days, and is the first attempt at such an idea. For what it's worth, the idea worked out pretty well. But the game was unnecessarily difficult at times. I look forward to seeing how 2 fixed things.

Bayonetta 2 (Bundle)

Man, how did I never hear about how good these games are? Seriously, I've never heard anyone talk about Bayonetta. Played through the first game, and IMMEDIATELY booted up the sequel. And dang, was that HD beautiful.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

Did not expect much from this. Was pleasantly surprised, and cannot wait to play the sequel.

Wild Arms 2

Never tried Wild Arms before. Honestly, this game was laughably easy.

Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus

Didn't even know about this game until last year, and got it in January 2016. It only took me until September to actually play it. And it was awesome! Definitely an improvement over Abe's Odyssey, an already great game.

Sniper Elite V2

I love being the sniper in shooter games, so this was a lot of fun. I really love the physics of the bullets, and the bullet tracking that reminds me of Fallout and Mortal Kombat.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

I never even heard of this game until my girlfriend mentioned it this year. Definitely a unique game that, although the plots gets extremely convoluted near the end, is an absolute blast.

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below

The characters were bland and annoying (as Toriyama is wont to do), but gameplay was really interesting. It was a nice blend between hack and slash and RPG, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Valkyria Chronicles

Another awesome game that I'm shocked I'd never heard of. It strikes me as a 3D Fire Emblem with guns, and I have zero problems with that. I can't wait to find the sequel.

Advance Wars

A fully enjoyable game, although basic. But then again, what original titles aren't basic compared to their successors?

Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

Just as good as the first game. Love it

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Well holy shit, did this game take the series in a difference direction. From happy and chipper with goofy music to a post-apocalyptic wasteland with treacherous murder and brain-eating parasites that target children.

Still a great game, but what the fuck, Intelligent Systems?

WarCraft III: Frozen Throne

Warcraft III was my favorite RTS of all time, so it's about time I got around to this expansion. It didn't add too much content, but it definitely help set up Arthas' story for World of Warcraft. I still very much enjoyed it.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

I don't know how, but every Mario and Luigi RPG comes out amazing. And this one was no different.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Finally got around to beating this game (I couldn't beat the final boss when I rented this game in 2005). Still haven't beat the Pit of 100 Trials, though...

The World Ends With You

Again, I'd never heard of this one. It has a slow start, but man does that game get crazy as it picks up. I plan on doing the Second Chance content sometime, but not right now.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth

Probably a weaker title in the Phoenix Wright games, but still pretty good. There were many points where the evidence that you had to present to move on made no sense due to plot holes, and the final chapter dragged on for waaaaaaaay too long, but it was still fun to play a Phoenix Wright game from the other side.

Outlast

I suck at horror games because they spook me easily. So this was a FUN one to stream. I only screamed like a little girl a half dozen times.

State of War

Good lord. I have played this game since I was 12, and was never able to beat it. Some levels are so easy that you'll beat them on the first try. Others are so hard that even walkthrough guides are barely able to accomplish them. The last level is easily the hardest RTS level that I have ever played, but I finally checked this off of my list.

Super Mario Bros. 2

I have been stuck on world 7-2 since I was a little kid. For whatever reason, I felt compelled to break this game out again earlier this month. Finally figured out the part of the level that I was stuck on, and beat the game less than 10 minutes after that.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

I thoroughly enjoyed this game, and can't wait to take on the new Game + and Lunatic content next year.
