Description

NOTE: As usual, this is limited to games that I actually own. I mostly have North American games, so keep that in mind as well.

When I first started making this list, I thought there would be a lot of bad box art, but surprisingly, it wasn't too bad.

Bust-A-Move 2: Arcade Edition

I remember seeing this cover in magazines back in the '90s and thought it was really weird then as well. Okay, so what do we have here...a face on balls / bubbles that appears to be screaming and has its eyes forcibly held open by some matches or some sort of tool. What kills me about this one is it really has nothing to do with the game, which of course, is a puzzle game. I mean, I guess the balls / bubbles represent the bubbles in the game, but where are the faces coming from? And why are they screaming and have their eyes forced open? All I can think of is it's so addictive that you'll want to keep your eyes open even when you get tired so you can keep playing and scream at the TV because...why not?

Tunnel B1

This is another image that I remember I found weird back in the '90s. I always thought it looked like the entrance to a tunnel on a roller coaster or something. Again, it has very little to do with the game because having played it recently, I can assure you, it's not all tunnels.

Hiyakuke no Omoide + Himekuri: Girls in Motion Puzzle Vol. 1

Well, at least this one has something do to with the gameplay? I know it may not seem like it, but in this one you put together jigsaw puzzles of the various ladies on the cover while they're posing for photo shoots on the beach. Now before you get the wrong idea, this isn't anything more than you'd see on primetime TV or a visit to the pool in the summer. In fact, the game is rather interesting because the puzzles themselves aren't static images, but rather video cips, hence the "Girls in Motion" subtitle. Hmm..I should probably record a video of this one to better explain myself :P

Virtual Volleyball

I haven't played this game, but the cover is...interesting. It just looks like everyone is jumping up to high five one another or something, rather than playing volleyball. Well, except the guy towards the left, he's just jumping into nothingness apparently. And why are both teams wearing essentially the same uniform?

Break Point Tennis

This isn't so much weird as it is...ugh, I don't even know. All I know is I'm terrible at Photoshop, but I could do a better job with this one. It's just some dude apparently flying through the air trying to hit a tennis ball.

College Slam

I never realized how weird this is. You have a maniacal basketball eating a rim and a random cheerleader floating above it. Maybe it should've eaten this game since it's horrible. (Okay, I take that back, I played this a lot as a kid on the Genesis hehe)

Baku Baku

I was hesitant to include this one because although the cover is weird, it does a really good job of representing the game. This is a puzzle game where you match animals to their preferred food. So that's why the panda is eating bamboo and the monkey is eating a banana. And they look really happy doing it.

Virtual Mahjong

This is another game I haven't played because I don't know how to play mahjong. I know very little about it and only own it because it was part of a lot I bought a long time ago. I think it's one of the "adult" Saturn games where you play strip mahjong or something. The cover just has three ladies posing in various ways and the word VIRTUAL right in the middle. I have no idea what else the cover says since I don't read Japanese and can only assume I have the title correctly entered here :P

Ochan no Oekaki Logic

Eh, this one isn't too weird, I suppose. It's either some sort of critter or a dude dressed in a critter outfit with a giant pencil. Then there's the other...thing...passed out in front of him. I can only assume he was stabbed by the giant pencil, but I haven't played the game to know for sure. I do want to play it though since it's a picross clone and I'm a sucker for those :D

Shellshock

The last one here isn't really weird, but it's like they took every action cliche and threw it on a cover. We have the tough guy in the front with the dark shades, we have a tank with a smoking barrel, there's an ominous looking sky with a helicopter flying in it and a random explosion in the corner. Yeah, it's SHELLSHOCK, let's blow stuff up!!
