Here's my list of the best games I played in 2017

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

While Mario Odyssey was close to making the top of the list, Breath of the Wild tops it for me this year. I loved every minute of this game. When I finished the game earlier this year I felt a bit of sadness knowing that I'd likely not visit Hyrule again for a long time. Hopefully when the second DLC gets released I'll feel like going back again. The open world, the battles, the story were all perfect for me. It really was a masterpiece.

Super Mario Odyssey

Nintendo really hit it out of the park this year with the release of the Switch and many great games. Mario Odyssey was a close contender to make the top of my list this year. I originally thought trying to find 1000 moons would get annoying after a while but I'm still enjoying it. Even after beating the main story and am 21 hours in with 391 moons as of me writing this I'm still having fun. This is a must have if you have a Switch.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows

I played Shovel Knight last year and Plague of Shadows is a good extension to the original game. It's a parallel story to the original story that I thought was really neat when the two stories came together. The music was similar to the original which is top notch . If you like Shovel Knight you'll enjoy this.

Blaster Master Zero

I've played the original Blaster Master before but never could beat it but I really enjoyed it. After seeing previews of Zero I knew I had to pick it up and I wasn't disappointed. This holds on to the elements of the original that made it great. How can you go wrong with riding around in a tank blasting bad guys then jumping out of it and blowing up baddies with several other guns in a top down shooter.

Child of Light

Child of Light is a simple RPG but I liked the unique art style and the music in this one. Sometimes it feels like I'm playing in a painting. The constant rhyming gets old at times but overall it's a good story.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

I had a lot of fun with this adventure in early 2017. There were times when it felt like I was actually going through the Tombs with Lara. I remember feeling on edge several times through the game wondering what was going to come after me next.

Oxenfree

This was my first Graphic Adventure game that I've ever played. Having the games direction change based on my answers to the characters was a first for me and it really made it a nice change in the games that I normally play.

Final Fantasy IX

I've been working on this game since 2016. I'm enjoying the story but it is a long one. Hopefully I can finish this one soon.

Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles is another one of those games that I normally wouldn't play (tactical RPG) but I ended up liking the art style and coming up with a strategy for beating the different maps. It did get a little hard for me and I've moved on with out beating this one. Maybe I'll come back to it later.

Puyo Puyo Tetris

I love Tetris so when I picked this up I knew that I would love at least half of the game. This was the first time I played Puyo Puyo and it is fun but I never could really master it like I can with Tetris. I completed the story mode and made it to the credits. Maybe one day I'll finally understand Puyo Puyo.
