Uprising was a cool looking game back in the '90s that I never had a chance to play. I thought it looked really neat (the sequel too) and was sort of a precursor to the 1998 Battlezone remake, which I did play (though not very well haha!)

Anyways, GOG recently added Uprising to their catalog and I thought, why not have a giveaway for it!

If you're not familiar with this game, it's sort of an action / shooter / strategy hybrid. It reviewed well, but never seemed to catch more than a cult following. It somehow managed to get a sequel, which progressed the formula even further. There was also a PlayStation-exclusive release called Uprising X and as far as I know, it's a toned down take on the gameplay. I've played it a little bit and it seems really fun, but you can't change the look controls and they're backwards to me :(

The company behind these games was Cyclone Studios and they also released a relatively unknown PC game called Requiem: Avenging Angel. Although it performed poorly both critically and commercially, I absolutely loved it. Admittedly, it's a pretty standard FPS from the late '90s, but I loved its setting and atmosphere. But hey, I also liked KISS: Psycho Circus and Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2 from that era, so take my praises with a grain of salt hehe...(no seriously, I loved all three of those games!!)

Interestingly enough, I recorded a Saturn video the other day of a game called BattleSport and didn't realize Cyclone Studios had also developed that. It was originally on the 3DO, but later had Saturn and PlayStation ports. It was a surprisingly fun game that seems to have held up well. So I guess the moral to all of this is I need to play the Uprising games since I seem to enjoy their games...

ANYWAYS, to enter this giveaway, all you need to do is post some of your favorite hybrid genre games. I'll randomly select someone who posts and you'll get a free GOG key for Uprising: Join or Die!

You must post before 11:59:59 PM EST 3/25/16 to enter!

Oh and it's up for bounty too :)

Since I don't want to die, I'll join this giveaway. :P

Persona 4: RPG/Dating Sim

I'll probably think of more later and edit them in.

I haven't played many, but I concur on RPG / Dating Sim games! I loved Thousand Arms on PS1.

I'd rather someone else get the game, so don't count me in for the draw. I just want to toss my hat into the discussion topic!

Actraiser is one of my favourite hybrids of action/simulation. The city building stuff was very fun even if it was pretty simplified. Was massively disappointed when they stuck with just the action part in the sequel.

Ahhh Actraiser! Yet another game I drooled over in Nintendo Power...and I didn't have a SNES. That game looked awesome. I need to get around to it...

I don't know how similar it is, but I've played a bit of A Valley Without Wind 2, which was kinda neat.

In the spirit of sportmanship, I'm bumping this one.

As of right now, it's not going to be too random of a giveaway. :P

Portal 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games, part fps and part levelpuzel I consider them to be.
Thanks for doing the giveaway! :)

Hope I understood what hybrid genre meant, haven't heard that term before.

The Portal games definitely count. I'd even add Platformer to puzzle and FPS (where you don't actually shoot anything per se.)

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my all time favorites... RPG + Strategy.

Aaaaaaand the results are in. I rolled a D20 with @boffo97 being evens and @KishFalk being odds and I rolled a..............10!

@boffo97, I'll send you a gift link via Steam, enjoy!

I tried out the game the other day and it seemed pretty fun. It's apparently a fragile game (according to the GOG staff in their forums), so hopefully you don't have any issues running it. It kept crashing on me and I ended up rebooting my PC, which allowed me to load it up. Apparently it has problems if you have background process running or something. I didn't know all of this before I started the giveaway. It sucks giving away a game that might not work :P

Haha yes, that would've probably been easier...but I had to try and roll a critical hit!

Oh and be sure to let us know what you think about the game (hopefully it works for you!) I almost accepted the bounty, but I need to stop accepting them when I know I have no chance of actually finishing them in the allotted timeframe :P
