Welcome to the Steam Winter Sale 2016 Giveaways! Each giveaway has a simple challenge for you to complete by posting in the corresponding thread. Upon doing so, you're automatically entered for the giveaway. Once the giveaway ends, I'll randomly select a winner from those who posted! As the gaming industry marches towards a digital marketplace, physical games aren't quite as prominent as they once were. But we always have the classics, right? And in those classics, you can find a plethora of....weird box art. I touched on this topic a while back in this stack. For this challenge, you'll need to post a weird box art image! You have until 11:59PM EST on 1/1/17 to post! http://store.steampowered.com/app/6090/

This game had the uncanny ability to annoy me every time I saw it. Nothing wrong with the gameplay, that was fine. It was that this game was always sitting on the shelf at my local movie rental place, never rented. This ridiculous banjo-playing geezer cover art masterfully concealing what was a competent although not stellar r-type/gradius clone that deserved at least some attention. I rented it once and that was enough for me.

Haha I actually own Baldies on PS1...but I've never played it. I think it's an RTS-kinda game. I should play it. Although I've never played Phalanx, I always thought the cover art was odd. I don't know how many times I had seen it before I realized it had nothing to do with the actual gameplay. |

So I played Baldies this morning and it's....interesting. I had NO idea what I was doing, but somehow fumbled my way into victory on the first level. It's sort of like the wave of Dwarf Fortress style survival games, but not really. It's definitely not an RTS though.

Thinking back, I would say Zombies ate my neighbor for the Super Nintendo takes it for the weirdest one I know of. |

Yeah, that alternate box art is something of a collector's item, apparently. I haven't found too many sources confirming it's origin, but most people seem to think it was a Mexican variant. |
