The 2020 Completionator Community Top 10 voting has come to a close and I want to thank everyone who participated in the event this year. A few years ago we thought it would be fun to come up with our own video game awards that you, the members of the Completionator community, could vote on. Unlike other Game of the Year awards, the games people could vote for were for all games ever, not just those released in 2020. The only rule is the vote had to be for a game the person played in 2020.

This year we had 36 people submit votes on 283 different games. The votes were given point values based on how the games were placed in the person’s stack. So first place received 10 points and tenth placed received 1 point. Without further ado, we now reveal the 2020 Completionator Community Top 10!

10 - Ark: Survival Evolved

Release Date: 8/29/2017
Number of Owners: 754
Average User Rating: 68%
2020 Completions: 0

Our 10th place game makes a surprising appearance especially since it was released in 2017 without any rereleases in 2020. But this is what makes the Completionator Top 10 so interesting as any game can show up in the top 10 if enough people enjoyed it. Similar to the big gaming magazines, the Completionator community has giving this an overall "ho hum" rating of 68%. Check this game out if you like the idea of being stranded on an island with dinosaurs.

9 - Half Life: Alyx

Release Date: 3/23/2020
Number of Owners: 50
Average User Rating: 90%
2020 Completions: 2

A VR title has made it to the Top 10! Half Life: Alyx is one of VRs first AAA quality games to come out on headsets. Valve poured a lot into the making of this game and it has paid off. Half Life: Alyx won Best VR/AR game at the Game Awards this year and has gotten high praise from other publications. Will the success of Half Life: Alyx cause other developers to bring more focus to VR? We can only hope!

8 - Yakuza 0

Release Date: 3/12/2015
Number of Owners: 517
Average User Rating: 91%
2020 Completions: 6

Yakuza 0 is another somewhat surprising entry into the Top 10 this year. Unlike Ark, Yakuza 0 did have an Xbox One release earlier this year. Yakuza 0 is the 6th entry into the beloved Yakuza series as a prequal to the original. If you haven't checked out the Yakuza series, you should as this is just one of two Yakuza games that has hit the top 10 this year. The next Yakuza game to hit the top 10 is.....

7 - Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Number of Owners: 26
Average User Rating: 97%
2020 Completions: 5

The second Yakuza game to make the top 10 this year is Yakuza: Like a Dragon. This game was released to the West in November of this year and already has made an impression on some of our gamers. This is the series' 8th entry.

Ghost of Tsushima is the first of the games on this year's list to be nominated for Game of the Year at the Game Awards this year. In this Playstation exclusive game, you take on the role of a samurai and you hack and slash through battles in this open world game to help protect Japan during the first Mongol invasion. Ghost of Tsushima has won several awards as well including Best Art Direction at the Game Awards. This is definitely worth checking out.

The Last of Us: Part II has won many awards, including Game of the Year at the Game Awards this year. Persona 5 Royal was released as an enhanced version of Persona 5 (#5 on the 2018 Top 10) that was released earlier this year. Similar to Persona 4 Golden, this version adds in additional characters, new music and other elements to the original game. I think the question on everyone's minds is when will we see Persona 6 on the PS5??

3 - Final Fantasy VII Remake

Number of Owners: 130
Average User Rating: 88%
2020 Completions: 36

The long awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake finally released this year, 5 years after it was originally announced at E3. The game is not a true remake of the game as it is a reimagining by expanding on the original story. This is actually part 1 of many parts. The leaves us to wonder when we will ever see the completion of the Final Fantasy VII remake... This was another game nominated for Game of the Year and won various other awards this year.

2 - Hades

Our runner up this year is the roguelike action RPG, Hades. Another nominee for Game of the Year at the Game Awards, this game takes on a character that is the son of Hades himself and he attempts to escape hell to try and reach Mount Olympus. If you enjoy Greek mythology and are a fan of roguelike games, be sure and check this one out. Runner up is not bad for an indie game!

1 - Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Release Date: 3/20/2020
Number of Owners: 219
Average User Rating: 83%
2020 Completions: 22

Last year we were left with a tie for 1st place, but not this year! Animal Crossing: New Horizons takes this year's Completionator Top 10 Game of the Year all by itself and by a long shot! This game showed up on 10 different lists this year and blew away the rest on this year's list. Animal Crossing: New Horizons released at just the right time this year. With so many beginning lockdowns from the pandemic, many used the much anticipated Animal Crossing as an escape to a non-pandemic infected world. New Horizons was another game nominated for Game of the Year at the Game Awards this year. This is the 3rd time out of the 4 years we've done the Top 10 list that a Nintendo Switch game has won the Completionator Top 10 Game of the Year!
