The 2021 Completionator Community Top 10 voting has come to a close and I want to thank everyone who participated in the event this year. Five years ago we thought it would be fun to come up with our own video game awards that you, the members of the Completionator community, could vote on. Unlike other Game of the Year awards, the games people could vote for were for all games ever, not just those released in 2021. The only rule is the vote had to be for a game the person played in 2021.
This year we had 33 people submit votes on 259 different games. The votes were given point values based on how the games were placed in the person’s stack. So first place received 10 points and tenth placed received 1 point. Any ties were broken by the number of votes the game received. Without further ado, we now reveal the 2021 Completionator Community Top 10!
10 - God of War (2018)
Release Date: 4/20/2018
Number of Owners: 571
Average User Rating: 93%
2021 Completions: 13
Our 10th place game was the 2018 Completionator Game of the Year! This year it makes it's return to the top 10 for the first time since then! It's no surprise Kratos would show back up on our list after all the accolades this game received back in 2018. Be sure to check this game out on the PS4 if you haven't already. God of War's average user rating is tied with another game on the list as the game with the highest rating with a 93%.
9 - Persona 5 Strikers
Release Date: 2/20/2020
Number of Owners: 95
Average User Rating: 84%
2021 Completions: 11
This is the 4th time some form of a Persona 5 game has made it to the top 10 list! Persona 5 Strikers lands at #9 off of a tiebreaker with God of War. This game is an action role playing crossover game that mixes elements of Dynasty Warriors and the characters from Persona 5.
8 - Shin Megami Tensei V
Release Date: 11/11/2021
Number of Owners: 39
Average User Rating: 83%
2021 Completions: 4
This Nintendo Switch exclusive is the 5th mainline entry into the Shin Megami Tensei franchise. It was nominated for best Role Playing Game at this year's Game Awards.
T-7 - Cyberpunk 2077
Release Date: 12/10/2020
Number of Owners: 316
Average User Rating: 79%
2021 Completions: 28
The long awaited Cyberpunk 2077 is part of our one and only true tie this year. This grand buggy game has the lowest average user rating on the top 10 list with a 79%. The low rating may be related to all the problems this game had upon release, especially with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Cyberpunk was nominated for best RPG and Best Music at this year's Game Awards.
T-7 - Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Release Date: 11/12/2020
Number of Owners: 144
Average User Rating: 86%
2021 Completions: 12
The other game tied for 7th is the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man. If you enjoyed the previous Spider-Man game released on Playstation you should have just as much fun with this one. The gameplay and mechanics are nearly the same as the previous game.
6 - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Release Date: 6/11/2021
Number of Owners: 61
Average User Rating: 91%
2021 Completions: 14
The 16th installment in the Ratchet & Clank series made it to 6th place on the top 10 list this year. It also received the most number of votes for a single game at 6 total votes. With 16 installments of this series you can't go wrong with Ratchet & Clank. (As long as you can find a PS5 to play it on). Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was nominated for a ton of awards including Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Audio Design, Innovation in Accessibility, Best Action/Adventure Game and Game of the Year at the Game Awards but sadly didn't win a single one of those categories.
5 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition
Release Date: 8/30/2016
Number of Owners: 270
Average User Rating: 92%
2021 Completions: 6
The oldest game to reach this year's top 10 is The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition. The Witcher III original game made it to the top 10 list back in 2018 in the 8th place spot so it's a bit surprising to see it show up as 5th on this year's list. That's what makes the Completionator Top 10 so interesting, you never know what games will make a surprise visit to the list.
4 - Astro's Playroom
Release Date: 11/12/2020
Number of Owners: 71
Average User Rating: 85%
2021 Completions: 15
It's no wonder this game reached the Top 10 this year since it came preloaded to all PS5 consoles. What is shocking is the fact that it's landed in the 4th place spot this year. Not bad for a game that is essentially a tech demo.
3 - It Takes Two
Release Date: 3/26/2021
Number of Owners: 52
Average User Rating: 93%
2021 Completions: 10
It Takes Two means just that, you must play with another person either online or local to play this game. Hazelight, the creator of this game, has been successful with this format in the past with a game called A Way Out. This game was nominated for Best Narrative and Best Game Direction and won many awards including Best Multiplayer Game, Best Family Game and won Game of the Year at the Game Awards! This game along with God of War ties for the highest rated game on the Top 10. Sounds like you should give this game a shot if you like forced 2 player games.
2 - Tales of Arise
Release Date: 9/9/2021
Number of Owners: 52
Average User Rating: 81%
2021 Completions: 9
The seventeenth entry into the Tales series lands in the 2nd Place spot. The aim of the developers was to revitalize the Tales series and it looks like it successfully did just that at least among the Completionator community! Tales of Arise won Best RPG at the Game Awards this year! At #2 you can't go wrong with checking this game out.
1 - Metroid Dread
Release Date: 10/8/2021
Number of Owners: 80
Average User Rating: 89%
2021 Completions: 23
This year's Completionator Top 10 Game of the Year is Metroid Dread! Set after the events of Metroid Fusion, it retains the side-scrolling gameplay of previous Metroid games that we haven't experienced since 2002 when Fusion was released. Metroid Dread was another game nominated for Game of the Year at the Game Awards this year and actually won Best Action/Adventure Game. This is the 4th time out of the 5 years we've done the Top 10 list that a Nintendo Switch game has won the Completionator Top 10 Game of the Year!
