Hey, look at this, I'm actually starting a Game Club thread! The other night, @jwcooley and I started playing through games in Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2 and our goal is to finish all of the games in it.

So we're going to use this to track / discuss our progress. Given that many of these games have been released a number of times across many different platforms, feel free to jump in with your thoughts or heck, fire 'em up and add a completion or ten ;)

Here are the games in this collection:

  • 1941: Counter Attack
  • Avengers
  • Black Tiger
  • Block Block
  • Captain Commando
  • Eco Fighters
  • Hyper Dyne Side Arms
  • Knights of the Round
  • Last Duel
  • Magic Sword
  • Mega Twins
  • Quiz & Dragons: Capcom Quiz Game
  • Street Fighter
  • Strider (Arcade)
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo
  • The King of Dragons
  • The Speed Rumbler
  • Three Wonders
  • Tiger Road
  • Varth: Operation Thunderstorm

So far, here are the ones I've completed:

  • 1941: Counter Attack - Surprisingly, I had never actually played the 1941 / 1942 games much. I can remember playing the arcade version of one of them as a kid, but that's about it. This was game decent, though I didn't like having to constantly tap "X" to fire.
  • Avengers - I knew absolutely nothing of this game before I played it. If I hadn't loaded it onto Completionator, I wouldn't even know it existed. It was okay and I thought it got better as I started to understand (or perhaps, cheapen) the mechanics.
  • Black Tiger - This is another one that I knew nothing about before playing it. I thought it was a neat concept, but man, I was pretty terrible at it. If I didn't have infinite continues, there's no way I would've made it through. It took me over an hour to complete, which is pretty solid for an arcade game. Unfortunately, there was a bit of frustration throughout.
  • Knights of the Round - This game, along with The King of Dragons (see below), was a game that I used to drool over in Nintendo Power back when it was ported to the SNES. At the time, I didn't have a SNES (and in fact, I would end up getting a Genesis instead), so I never had a chance to play it. That being said, I was highly disappointed in this game. It's just nowhere near as good as the fantastic The King of Dragons and I'll forever compare those two games, no matter how unfair it is to this one. Oh well.
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo - The nostalgia is strong with this one! I didn't have Turbo growing up, but I did have Super Street Fighter II. I pretty much wore out my Genesis with that game and Mortal Kombat 3. I remember seeing Turbo at Wal-Mart on the 3DO (yes, 3DO), but alas, I didn't have the $700 to buy said system to play it on. Anyways, it's a classic, 'nuff said.
  • The King of Dragons - Ah, here we go. This is quite possibly my favorite beat 'em up game of all time. I mean, I put it right up there with TMNT and Turtles in Time. It's that good. Maybe it's because I'm a fantasy nut, but whatever. When I finally did get a SNES, this was the first game I tracked down. And yet, some 15+ years later, I'm still playing (and enjoying) it!

I've completed:

1941: Counter Attack

Avengers

Black Tiger

Block Block

Captain Commando

Eco Fighters

Knights of the Round

Last Duel

The King of Dragons

Magic Sword

Mega Twins

Quiz & Dragons

Hyper Dyne Side Arms

So far, my favorite has definitely been The King of Dragons, but 1941 is pretty good too.

Probably the biggest turd (so far) is Black Tiger.

I enjoyed Block Block but after so many puzzles it just somewhat repetitive. Oh well, it's finished!!!

Captain Commando was pretty good.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo was my jam back in the day. So much that I actually have two physical SNES cartridges for some reason. Playing on highest speed + highest difficulty was insanely fun. (your definition of "fun" may vary!)

King of Dragons/Knights of the Round ate so many of my quarters in the arcades!

I just finished Block Block and it was okay. I enjoy Arkanoid-style games, but I'm not very good at them. Especially when they have crap controls. I understand the PS1 controller doesn't have a traditional Arkanoid knob, but come on, at least give me analog support!! Some of the levels were pretty tough and once again, there's no way I finish this game without unlimited continues. Oh well, another one down!
