I've considered picking up a Vita over the years, but I've always been annoyed by the lack of TV output. I generally don't game on the go, so if I'm going to sit in front of a TV, I'd much rather use it for gaming. When I do want to use a portable system, I've got a 3DS with plenty of games already. I have a PSP as well, but I barely play it. I know there's also PlayStation TV, but I'm a little concerned by the compatibility restrictions. All that being said, the Vita has a pretty nice collection of games that look interesting and I think I'm ready to get in on it. So does anyone out there have one and if so, what do you think? I'm only looking at exclusive games for now and here's what I have on my short list:
I was going to include Tearaway and Gravity Rush, but they're heading to PS4 in some form, so I'll probably hold off. |

I have a Vita, and I kind of feel bad for the system. It's got great graphics and all that, but the proprietary memory card REALLY hurts it. You end up paying WAY too much for memory. But I would definitely add Persona 4 Golden to your list. It's awesome. Even if you already beat the original game, there's new Social Links to explore (including a new romance). For some reason though, they changed the voice actress for Chie Satonaka, and if you're used to one Chie voice, it's hard to get used to the other. |

I had a feeling Persona 4 Golden might be mentioned :) From what I've read, that game is often considered the best Vita game, period. And it looks awesome. The problem is, I have the original Persona 4 and I never even opened it. I was hooked on Persona 3 FES and sunk a ton of time into it and it was great, but damn, those games are long! And nerve-racking at times with all of the instant death enemies. But I might pick up Golden since it's not too expensive (and I'm sure it'll hike at some point) and see if I can get into it. I had read about the memory issues as well and those things are way expensive. From what I've read though, if you're not getting digital downloads, then it shouldn't be too big of a problem? I think the base model right now includes 1GB internal space, so I'm hoping that's enough for saving the handful of games I plan to get. I doubt I'll get any digital games since most of the ones I want are on Steam, PS3, or PS4. Let me know if I'm missing any good exclusives though! |

Uncharted: Golden Abyss is supposed to be pretty good, the base digital install is about 3.5gb from what I've seen. I think the Vita Killzone game is just shy of 4gb if you're a fan of that series. Granted, those both are available physically, but figured I'd chime in and say that you can get away with an 8gb card ($30-$40) I think if you don't mind installing/uninstalling the bigger digital titles as needed. I would say go with a 4gb card, but with patches/updates, I'm sure Killzone is over 4gb now. |

I just checked and it's ONLY the newer model, the PCH-2000 that has 1GB of Flash memory. The older model, the PCH-1000, has NO memory (except RAM of course) unless you buy a memory card. And for me, a decently sized memory card was essential. With the Playstation Plus program, I'm getting at least 2 (more with cross platform titles) Vita games a month. Most are cheap little indies though and thus don't take up TOO much room.

After doing some more research, I think I'm going to start with a PlayStation TV. The compatibility seems pretty high and almost all of the games I'm interested in are on the list. The really nice thing about it is you can find them under $40 pretty easily. I think I'll try it out and if I really like the Vita games and want some of the ones that are incompatible, I can get an actual Vita later on. I haven't purchased the PlayStation TV yet, but I went ahead and ordered Demon Gaze and Persona 4 Golden. Now let's see if I actually play them... I might pick up the Uncharted game soon since I really enjoyed the PS3 games. One of the reviews I watched actually showed Killzone and it struggled with some of the "emulated" touch controls, so I might have to wait on that one. That reminds me, I should play the Killzone I bought on PS4 when it came out...ugh. |

There's some workaround right now that apparently bypasses the bs whitelist stuff with regards to the PS-TV, might be something to look into. Who knows how long it'll stay viable though (prolly until the next sony system software update)

Oooooh nice! I'll definitely keep that in mind if I run into any incompatible games. I suppose I'd better not update the system or else Sony will patch it out :P So yeah, I picked one up yesterday and so far I think it's AWESOME! I have three games for it so far: Freedom Wars, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, and Persona 4 Golden. I played Freedom Wars yesterday since it's the only one I had at the time and it's pretty neat, though I doubt I'll devote the time required to play through it. I started playing Danganronpa earlier today and it seems pretty cool so far. I'm not a huge visual novel fan, but this one intrigues me for some reason. I've intentionally NOT played Persona 4 Golden yet because I told myself I need to finish Mad Max and Dragon Force first haha! Not to mention I have two more Vita RPGs on the way: Demon Gaze and Dungeon Travelers 2 and I need to make a final decision on which one will be first :) I'm really impressed with the Vita gameplay so far. It's by FAR better than the shoddy TV out that the PSP had. I'm using a Dual Shock 4 and so far everything is flawless. I'm not interested in using any of the other features that it has, which seemed to be the main negatives that I read about in reviews. So for me, this was an amazing grab for $40 since I had no interest in playing a Vita anywhere other than my recliner that sits in front of my TV.

That is a neat little trick, especially when it's a title like MLB: The Show 12 (picked because I own it) where the sole usage of the touch screen was to slide a certain point to get past the start screen, and that was enough to push it off the compatibility list. |

What size of Memory Card do you recommend? Do you think the 16 is big enough?

I've got a 16GB on mine now... has a lot, but fills up fast. Of course, that's mostly because I'm a PS+ member and thus get at least 2 new Vita games per month (though lately, selection has been awful.) I'll also point out that Sony recently announced they have no more 1st party titles planned to come out on the Vita, so it looks like the beginning of the end for the thing. It's a shame too. I think Sony would be printing money if it just used standard SD cards. |

If you're looking at getting a PlayStation TV and don't plan on using digital games, then the internal 1GB drive should be sufficient for saving games. Otherwise, it'll depend on the games you want to download and how many of them you plan on getting. |

I've not really looked into the PlayStation TV thing until I read this thread. I'm not a big handheld guy. I've had my DS for years and have barely touched the thing. I've had the PSP for just as long and have maybe played through two games on it. I just don't like playing on a tiny screen. Plus, my hands cramp up after using the controllers on those things for a decent length of time. I've been playing through the Uncharted games and would really like to play Golden Abyss along with some other titles. I'm a PS Plus member too and I'm sure there are some free titles I've gotten over the past year or two that I'd enjoy trying. The PlayStation TV isn't that expensive either, so I'm strongly considering it. Most likely I'd only play one game at a time on the thing so I'd say the 16GB is sufficient for my needs. Is there ANY game you've come across that's bigger than 16GB for a digital download on the thing? I just want to make sure the 16 won't cause me to not be able to get a game or something.

Most of the advertised install sizes of the biggest games hover around 3-4gb, but that's not taking into account patches which by some accounts can add about 1gb give or take. The other thing you need to take into account is that when you're doing background downloads, you need almost double the free space listed so that it can get the installer for a game, and then install it. |

That's fine. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to screw myself over by getting the 16 when I should have just caved and got the 32. I think as long as I stick to the idea of one game at a time on the card, I should be alright. I will probably get one of these soon. |

Got mine for Christmas (sorry if I'm violating any rules about dead threads) because I like my visual novels. It's a solid system and the only problems I really have with it are that the memory cards are expensive and that the rear touch pad gets scratched easily. So far, I have: -LittleBigPlanet Vita (my only non-M rated game for this system)
I just ordered Dangan Ronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I might get Persona 4 Arena or Dancing All Night and maybe one of the Corpse Party games later on if I ever get around to finishing Golden. |

The only rule you're violating is reminding me that I STILL haven't played Persona 4 Golden :P But at least I finished the two games I said I was going to finish in a previous post (Mad Max and Dragon Force), so that's something, I suppose hehe. I have Persona 4: Dancing All Night, as well as Arena / Ultimax, but I haven't played them because I feel like I should play Persona 4...it's a vicious cycle. By the way, welcome to the site, @LaytonRonpa! I hope you enjoy using it :) Let me know if you need any games added or have any feedback (and be sure to let your friends know about it!) |

I would have never guessed you were into visual novel-esque games based on your username, lol I too received a Vita for Christmas, though I've only really used it as a mobile PSN party chat 95% of the time, though I occasionally play my ps+ freebies and remote play my ps4 games as well. Really like the battery life on it for the non-gaming stuff, lasts a heck of a long time it seems. How is that Ultra Despair Girls game? I've only played the first Danganronpa, but I've heard that UDG is a fairly big departure in game format. |

I haven't touched my PS TV. I got the 16GB memory card for it, though. |

@LaytonRonpa the Dangan Ronpa series is soooo good!! Persona 4 Golden is amazing as well, one of my favorite RPGs of all-time. Layton, since it seems like you enjoy visual novels, have you played Steins Gate for Vita/PS3? |

I have a vita that gets ignored because of my 3ds. My games so far are Dangan Ronpa, Criminal Girl's Invite, Little Deviants, Smart As, Ragnarok, and Persona. |

It's not, since it's basically a tech demo of all the features they were trying to push for the Vita, like the front and rear touchpads that a TV won't have. I actually got it free because apparently I earned points with Sony through all my PSN purchases and it was in their points program. |

I have a Vita TV... it collects dust really well... i love the way it collects dust, its pretty good at it. That being said what kills it, and will kill you is the memory card.. .the expensive memory card will EASILY be close to HALF the purchase price of your vita, and if you get a Vita Tv, could very well be MORE than the console. I spent 30 on my memory card for like 8 gig, and 50 for the console. Doesnt matter if you get the handheld or Vita TV. what will klil you is the price of the memory card, and how super limiting it is. Most games are 700megabytes to 1.5 gigs EACH... some are even more. Even with a 32 gig which is probably like nearly 100$ can be filled with just a few games and thats it. So your stuck to physical carts only and will only be able to use the memory card for smaller stuff like PS1 games and PSP games. PS1 games are cross buy but have limited features compared to ps3. You will NEED to own a PS3 or ps4(unsure if ps4 can do this) but on PS3 you can download Vita Games, and with your vita tv, or vita, you can transfer them over your local network as long as both are on the same one. I keep many vita games on my ps3 and can transfer them over and back again which is a pain in the ass process but its pretty much REQUIRED., Not hard to see why it failed. |

Yep. As I've said, they needed to design the thing to use standard SD cards, not proprietary overpriced nonsense. I just got a 32 GB microSD card for less than $10 off Amazon. My Vita would probably have a lot more games if I only had to pay that much for memory for it. |
