Don't have this game? That's cool, I'm giving one away http://www.completionator.com/Forum/PostList/2195?page=1 and if you'd rather not wait, it's $3.99 for the rest of the day on GOG.

Another one I haven't played yet, time to remedy that

edit: At least, I'm trying to remedy that. This game is being a real pain to get working properly without crashing to desktop a lot.

Dang, hopefully you're able to get it working properly. I've played about an hour so far and it's a pretty neat game. I knew nothing about it going in and not even sure how it ended up in my Steam library (seems like maybe a Humble Bundle a while back?) I haven't played the Battlefield Bad Company games much, but it reminds me of those so far. I don't much care for the (seemingly) infinitely spawning enemies at certain junctures, but nonetheless, the combat has been satisfying so far.

Got it working after some modification of an .ini file to set my graphics up outside the game. The squad AI is pretty awful. Actually, the AI in general is pretty awful. They make a big deal out of the different commandos being specialists, but when you assign a task, it seems like one at random takes it on, thus defeating the purpose of having specialists. I don't mind the "everyone aim at the tough guys" thing to take out strong enemies, but the AI is so poorly coordinated it doesn't work well before they start needing revives thus rendering them even more useless.

Not a big fan of this one so far, but at least it has decent shooty mechanics and a passable plot to keep me interested in how things go.

Wow, so... did not enjoy at all. It was such a slog to get through. It had so much potential as I tend to like games set in the Star Wars universe (and yet I don't like the movies much, go figure!) Everything just got progressively worse. I was fighting with my squad more than the enemy it felt like. They were so bloody STUPID.

"Snipe from here!"
"Yessir!"
clips into the side of a container, gets stuck there and gets pummelled to death by enemies

Or when they'd forget to move ahead after certain plot points leaving me to run off all alone to face groups of enemies where some friggin' squad mates would be really handy! f4 (recall) was useless, f3 (defend this spot) was good to manually force them to a location if they were being especially stubborn (though they'd often run all the way back to their "stuck" point if I let them loose.) f1 was useless and just the default AI behaviour. f2 was supposed to be form up, but it never did anything for me.

Needless to say, I had to learn how to handle a lot of stuff a bit more solo than the game was intending. Melee attacks are your best friend if you're at a section where you get a lot of repeating spawns. Especially against the stupid lizard things who have pretty long and slow animations when they join the fray.

This whole thing felt extremely rough around the edges, like they ran out of budget (or had little to start with) and the ending battle/cutscene REALLY shows it. What a letdown.

I've played for about 2.5 hours and just finished the first section. It feels a lot like Gears of War in structure:

  • Go into a room
  • Enemies spawn
  • Kill the enemies
  • Pick up ammo
  • Go to the next room and repeat the process

While Gears of War was pretty solid throughout (only played the first one), this game is actually kinda boring. I mean, the combat has moments where it's cool and fun, but then you realize it's the SAME FIGHT over and over. I love how the first two "bosses" are the exact same enemy (the tank thing). I'm enjoying the game still, but I sure hope they change up the enemies or something.

I agree with you that the squad AI is kinda bad. It reminds me of playing Daikatana, which I finished maybe a year or so after it came out. It was okay in that game since it was supposed to be terrible (although I DID enjoy it and would like to play it again), but you'd think this game could've improved on that a bit. My favorite part so far was when I died and was waiting to be revived, my squad killed the enemies and then just sat there waiting. I hit the revive option. And they sat there. I had to load my last save, ugh. It's funny how they're like "I could really use some cover here" and they're standing at a terminal with ABSOLUTELY NO ENEMIES within a mile of them.

All that being said, I like some of the ideas they were trying to do here. They made it really easy to set up a sniping position, or have a squad member take over a turret. Or open / blast a door. Too bad it doesn't always work.

I really liked the atmosphere during the first bit of the second chapter. That was pretty much the only thing I liked playing through the whole thing, I think mostly because squad mechanics are temporarily put on hold :D

I thought about picking this up when the Winter Sale starts on Steam but based on the comments above, I think I'll pass.
