For those that aren't familiar with this game, it's pretty cool! It looked fun back in the '90s, but I didn't pick it up until the mid '00s. I've made it pretty far before, but I've never completed it. I started playing again last September, so I'm going to pick up from there. As a big fan of the Ratchet and Clank games, it's neat to look back at the precursor (even though this game isn't like Ratchet at all, aside from you shooting lots of stuff).

Here's a video of the first level, which is more or less just a training level, but it does include some awesomely bad FMV: https://youtu.be/OgopUPj2Z1k

If anyone out there is intrigued enough to track down a copy, I can push the bounty date back a bit. Unfortunately, I don't think it's available digitally anywhere, so you're gonna need to whip out your PS1 (or PS2 or PS3)!

The way the title of the game comes in reminds me of youtube channels where they have their account name come with with a bunch of crappy After Effects junk tacked on.

Plus the FMV has the production quality on par with a YouTube video :P

The background music during that first stage sounds so familiar... I can't put my finger on it.

I finished this game today and I must say I was a little disappointed in it. The first half or so is really good, but then I felt like the difficulty spiked up a bit too much. I think it's mostly because the game hasn't aged that well, so I'm sure if I had played this in the '90s when it came out, I would've loved it.

My biggest issue was that I never had enough ammo!! And on top of that, there are robotic and organic enemy types, each of which are vulnerable to different weapons. That's actually a neat idea...but it takes WAY too long to switch between weapons. In reality, it's only like 2-3 seconds, but that's an eternity when you're being shot at after your weapon runs out of ammo and the next one loads up. And it's not like you can move out of the way very easily either, thanks to the old-school, cumbersome controls. This is an early PS1 FPS, so analog support is nowhere to be seen. That means you're using the awful PS1 d-pad to move and L2 / R2 to strafe. You use L1 / R1 to switch your weapons and psionics, respectively. But the problem is, the game doesn't pause while you're switching, so good luck finding the right weapon without taking ridiculous damage. Switching weapons / psionics is very similar to how it works in Metal Gear Solid, but I seem to recall that game pausing when you switched (but maybe not, it's been a while since I played it).

I mentioned psionics before and they're another nifty idea. They're equivalent to let's say spells or something in other games and require a separate resource for "ammo". The problem is, all of the psionic powers use the SAME pool of ammo. And all of the good ones use way too much of it, so you can only get a few "rounds" in. That really sucks when you miss an enemy too. There's a psionic power that does a little damage to an enemy and then generates ammo for your powers, but it's impossible to use if you have a field of enemies in front of you. I used hit and run tactics when taking on single enemies to very slowly increase my power reserves. It's just so tedious and holds you back because as I said before, they're pretty cool to use. And I didn't mention this before, but most of the weapons are really neat and fairly unique. But again, no ammo = no shooting things = you die a lot.

Most levels have 1-2 checkpoints throughout and all told, the levels aren't THAT large. But when you have to crawl through them to conserve / increase ammo, it makes them seem huge. That's what makes dying soooo incredibly frustrating in this game.

I know it sounds like I'm railing on the game, but it's only because it was THIS close to being a truly underrated classic. As it stands, it's a decent console-only FPS that hasn't aged particularly well. It had some cool ideas, but overall it just doesn't quite come together. I also found a few things that seemed like the foundation for some of the mechanics in Ratchet and Clank, so that was kinda neat as well.

After that, I think I'll pass getting it. If it ever gets a PC port that is reviewed well, I may decide to try it.
