I ended up making it to the second stage on Lap 3 and finished with 47,000 points. I always have trouble with that stupid spring at the top. I ended up using all of my lives trying to escape there.

Took me a couple rounds of losing all my lives on the first screen to remember how to time jumps. Made it to second lap and died, only 17,200 points :|

Made it to lap 2 in 4 minutes and only got 13700 points. I did get through the main game so its' completed!

I have a long history with ol'e DK. I first started playing Donkey Kong when I was 4 or 5 years old on the Atari. There were only two stages, the stage with the angled floors and the stage that falls after getting all the yellow square things. I was an expert at that game back in the day.

Here's a screenshot of the Atari version I played. http://www.8-bitcentral.com/images/reviews/atari2600/donkeyKong2600Screen.jpg The barrels looked like cookies and the girl you rescued looks like some kind of yellow mouse. :)

Haha those do look like cookies! The girl kinda looks like a fish with a humanoid body underneath to me, but I could see a mouse too :P

I don't recall when I first played Donkey Kong, but it was when I was probably 6 or 7. When I got my NES, I just had Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt for a while, but would eventually get a few games for Christmas / birthdays / etc. One of those games was Donkey Kong Classics.

It stopped working over a decade ago, but when I was a kid, I saved up my allowance to buy a bootleg Supervision 52-in-1 cartridge (not the infamous action 52 with cheetahmen) from some mail-order place. It included DK, DK Jr, and DK3. Wish it stlil worked, cause I'd fire it up in a heartbeat to see how well I could still play this game today.
