Do you need PS+ to download it? If not, I need to download it. The trailer looked interesting.

Of course, I'd be happy if they'd finally release Final Fantasy IX on Steam :P

You know what I'm not sure if you need PS+ to download it or not! I really enjoyed the demo...however it definitely doesn't play like a traditional Final Fantasy. It plays EXTREMELY similar to Kingdom Hearts, which I am perfectly fine with as I prefer action RPGs to traditional RPGs, but I know that probably will turn a lot of people off. The demo can be beaten in under a half hour as well (although you can play through it again with a few more things unlocked).

Tried it a couple of days ago. It was... interesting as a tech demo, not so much as a sample of actual gameplay. I was left somewhat underwhelmed.

I don't think you need PS Plus.

I downloaded it but haven't tried it yet. I blame Dark Souls for all my neglect towards other games at the moment...haha.

I also tried it a few days ago. It is just a tech demo with one 'real' fight at the end. It didn't impress me much however, and it didn't think it was a good representation of a final game.

I finally got around to playing the demo and here are my thoughts:

  • As has been mentioned, I felt the combat was very Kingdom Hearts-ish. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it felt very similar.
  • I should probably finish Kingdom Hearts sometime.
  • The production values are extremely high, which is to be expected with Final Fantasy.
  • While the game does look really good, I wish they would tone the graphics down a bit to make the engine run faster. It seemed sluggish compared to other games like The Witcher and Kingdoms of Amalur (though admittedly I've only played them on PC, so maybe the console versions are different).
  • It's always bothered me when an established series starts using main-line entries to incorporate drastically different gameplay. I thought Final Fantasy XIII was different and this is even further from the games of old. Resident Evil has the same problem. Good luck trying to compare Resident Evil 2 with Resident Evil 6. I'm all for gameplay variety and allowing developers to create new and interesting things...but come on, this is Final Fantasy in name only.
  • It will never happen, but I would love to see another FANTASY-based Final Fantasy....but an old school JRPG style. I'm talking ATB, random encounters, etc. I don't want 20 minute cutscenes. Give me some text and point me in a general direction and then let me go in the other way to try and murder enemies that are way overpowered for me.

Overall, it was hard to tell much from the demo. The game looks good, feels like it will be fun, but my most anticipated Final Fantasy game is still the Final Fantasy IX re-release on Steam...if it ever comes out...

And now that I've complained enough, I think it's time for me to finally post one of my favorite memes: http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/019/304/old.jpg

I'm very much in love with this demo of Final Fantasy XV. Here are some of my thoughts:

+ I'm so excited for the new system, storyline, and characters. Yes, I can see the purist argument that the series has been evolving too much, but sometimes (a lot of the time) change can be a great thing as long as it's innovating the right kind of stuff. That's what I've seen here so far.

+ The demo actually leaves a few things hidden inside, and can take more than a few playthroughs to uncover it all. Hidden weapons and other collectables are cleverly tucked away from you to kind of stumble upon. It's never a forced quest to find anything at all really. It sort of all just falls in your lap. I find this to be very interesting to have in just a tech demo.

+ You only fight one enemy as adult Noctis, but you can fight him over and over again if you please. I love the replay factor in this, as it turned a 20 minute demo into a 20 hour one. I'm not sure if you folks realized but the battle system is drastically different from other installments, so having this feature built in makes sense. You could cross train on the demo until release date and feel ready to go.

- A negative note I may add about the game is that this demo was rendered in 900p from what I believe...and makes sense given the shark tooth edges. However, the full game will be in 1080p respectively so no worries there.

I'm a hardcore fan of FF, lover of older titles and new, so I'm anxiously waiting for release for this one. I don't usually preorder stuff but the incentive seems rewarding for this title so I just may have to because you get special stuff towards the main game.

One more thing I will mention is that if you plan on playing the game at all, get through the demo. The summon Carbuncle is only available by completing the demo.
