Hi,

I've been using this site for a few days and I've been slowly adding my collection of games to my profile. (I own a few obscure games that are missing and I'll post their name in the appropriate thread once I'm done with the listing process)

I know the site primary use is to keep track of the game we completed and the ones we're currently playing, but I use it more as a way to manage my entire video game collection. Saddly, it's currently not possible to add consoles to our profiles. This would be a cool feature for people who own special editions or multiples copies of the same consoles.

My second suggestion is also related to consoles, but more specificaly in the "My Collection" page. Currently the "My Collection" page, by default, list all the game by alphabetical orders. I'm not a big fan of this, but to each his own. It might be cool to add an extra sorting option where it would show a list of every consoles you own games for, and clicking it would reveal all the game for that particular console.

I did a quick and dirty mockup to illustrate what I'm thinking :)

Quick edit: Clicking on a console name from the "Overview" page should maybe automaticaly add a filter to said console once it's redirected to the collection page.

This is a great idea, Arc. As someone who collects consoles as well as games I would also like a means to track them here.

It would probably make sense to first just go through and add as many consoles as possible to the database. Dunno if adding all variant systems would make sense right off the bat (or at all) if there is a comment field to specify which color or special edition of said console is owned.

"Dunno if adding all variant systems would make sense right off the bat (or at all)"

No need to. Games already have an "Edition" tag to specify and differentiate version of the games you own. I was thinking of reusing the same system.
Here's another mockup :)

First off, welcome to the site, @Arc111111!!

I know we've discussed adding peripherals to the database, which is still something I plan to do, but I think consoles are right there as well. It all goes back to whether we take the easy way or the hard way. The easy way is to just add consoles and peripherals as "games" and use a new type of "peripheral" or "console". This would immediately allow these things to show up under the Browse Games and My Collection pages with zero development effort. The main issue with this is everything is branded as "games", which would no longer be accurate.

The hard way would be to track these things as separate entities from our current list of "games". This is maybe(?) more accurate, but has huge implications both on initial development time, as well as long-term development time.

I'm leaning towards the easy option for now since we can also move to the hard option if necessary and we wouldn't be pushing ourselves into a corner or anything. As for variants, I'm torn on whether they should be separate "games" in the database. I kinda think they should, if nothing else because they can be visually quite different. Especially when you get into hardware revisions like the original NES and top-loader (not to mention the Famicom itself).
