Well, there's a lot of the bad reviews that are mostly just based on disappointment. But to an extent I can definitely understand the negative opinions, because in the couple hours I've played, it's just quite boring. It's very very simple, with little diversity, and plays more like a mobile RTS port. Not the worst game ever, but just not terribly interesting.

That sounds pretty much like what I took away from my brief experience with the game. I wonder how long it would take to complete the main campaign? I'm not opposed to playing a mindless RTS, just not sure I have time right now :P

So far I think I've put about 7 hours into it, and I'm only about 30% conquered on the World Domination mode. Since it's so mindless, I play while watching movies :P.
It's okay overall (boring more than anything), but severely lazy as a sequel.

Sidenote: I have this bad habit of not being able to commit to playing a game OR watching a movie in the evenings, so I end up playing something mindless like this while watching a movie. Instead of playing something awesome like Vampire Redemption lol.
