Do you keep track of when you read a book / watched a movie and how much you enjoyed it? Which websites do you use?

I recently started using IMDb for films and series, Goodreads for books and comics and MAL for anime and manga.

Oh my goodness I just came to the site to ask a very similar question as you. Well, I wanted to ask what movie collection databases people may use, specifically. (I'm looking for a software solution rather than web-based right now though).

I've been on IMDB for a while and find it works pretty well for what I need (tracking movies watched/having a to-watch list). With that said, it is not fully comprehensive - there are still a few movies I've seen which are not on the site.

Multiple members of Completionator use Letterboxd which is a glitzy version of IMDB, basically - and with a larger focus on community in my opinion. However it sources its movies from TMDb which is even less comprehensive than IMDB.

I'm a stats nerd, so yeah I use Letterboxd and Goodreads. I think I have a MAL but I've only watched like 3 anime series ever so I don't make much use of it lol.
The good thing about Letterboxd vs. IMDb is you can always create a new listing in TMDb if need be and then import it to Letterboxd. I've done that many times since I watch random obscure bullshit.

Edit: Oh yeah also LastFM for music.

@Marcus It's web-based instead of software based, but I'm a DVD collector and use Film Aficionado ( http://www.filmaf.com/ ). It's the absolute best movie collection database I've found, not the prettiest looking imo, but without doubt the most powerful.

I use Librarything for my books. It offers imo a bit more 'library' features than goodreads and feels a bit more nerdy ;-)

@Drymonema: I used to be really into filmaf. Thanks for reminding me it exists! With that said, my collection has evolved significantly since then which is why I'm searching around now as my intent is to start out fresh again.

Lately I've been looking for something with a good mix of robustness and that is decently pretty. This is super hard to come by, though, lol. Best I've found thus far is Collectorz for movies. I already have their game software and it's nice enough... though it's harder to push stuff into their gaming DB then other sources.

Yeah, I don't really play much anymore and I have a ton of random cards. I'm hanging onto my decks, just trying to clear out my singles.

Letterboxd diary is really cool... I wish IMDb had something like that...
Now I'm not sure if I want to stick with IMDb or switch to Letterboxd... it doesn't have series tho... neither does it have all that cool info on each movie... and that star system...
But the diary...

Letterboxd is more convenient with regards to movies you watch "now."

For me, I have maintained IMDB lists in the last few years to keep track of what I watched and when (by putting the date in the text field). Of course, this isn't ideal since you don't get any metrics off the dates in that way. On the other hand, me trying to turn these IMDB lists into Letterboxd diary entries is a little annoying as I have to set the calendar date for each one and stuff.

If I could have done it from the beginning I would have gone with Letterboxd, but as of now I have so much on IMDB it's still my "home base."

If you go Pro on Letterboxd ($19 a year) there's an import feature for activities and lists. I haven't done it, cause I never really used IMDb heavily, but I think you can easily update your watch activity that way, maybe??
Personally I'm a Letterboxd addict. But whatever works for you, works for you. Use both for different reasons if that's what works.

Also I quite like Letterboxd's lists myself cause they're nicer to look at imo. But again, personal preference, so to each his own.

The main let down I have with Letterboxd is that it doesn't have TV Series and I would have to use another site for that only purpose...

Yeah I can understand that. Admittedly I'm not much of a TV series guy, so I don't use anything for that. But Trakt.tv is popular for that purpose. But you're right, it's a separate site and that's always a pain in the ass.

TVmaze is wonderful for tracking TV shows. I also use Letterboxd and Last.FM as mentioned above.

I think I'll use both IMDb and Letterboxd for a while and then I'll decide which one to stick with.
Do any of you know how to add posters to Letterboxd? I added a movie with its poster to TMDb but the poster doesn't show up on Letterboxed.

The poster will show up in about 24-48 hours after you've added the new movie. So if you added the poster, you're good, it'll just take a few :)

If anybody needs a CD or Vinyl (It also tracks Cassettes, Digital, ect.) collection tracker/manager http://myrecordlist.com/ is amazing, highly recommend.

I personally haven't done a lot of tracking before now so apart from games I use http://trackseries.tv for TV shows, mostly because it has a progress bar feature that shows how far away I am from catching up/completing the series and I can also find Korean programmes on there, lol.

I've been using Letterboxd for a bit now and I have to say I like it a lot more than IMDb, so I'll use that from now on. Thank you for suggesting it to me!
