Good game, good controls. Beating it without save states would be tooooooooough. I used save states at the end of each area within a level, and it was still quite a challenge. I've gotten to the point that these old tough games are too frustrating without a sensible save system. I try to limit my saves based what I think is fair. In this case I waited until I reached the end of an area. Not necessarily after a boss, but everytime it does the thing where you exit the place you're in and are rewarded with health and firepower.

Sort of a SPOILER here, but seriously who's playing this for the story?

The end of the game says, "I'll be back. Watch for my next adventure." Interesting that they seem to have been planning a sequel. I'm fairly certain nothing ever came of this. But I like the character design on the main character when he's in the digital world vs the real world, so it would have been interesting to see this evolve in the 16 bit era.
