Hey everyone, I noticed we had a couple of new articles posted, which is great, but unfortunately this was intended to be a curator-only feature for a variety of reasons. There was a bug that enabled article creation, but I've pushed out a fix for it. For now, the new articles are still up and edit access is still available to the creators. This was one of those features that we just sort of threw out there to see where it went and it doesn't really have a direction and I'm not sure when I'll get around to taking it any further. Feel free to use this thread to discuss what could be done to improve upon it. I'm not opposed to opening it to all users or perhaps even a different subset of users beyond just curators, so that's certainly on the table. |

I apologize. I didn't understand the intent behind that. So where you prefer we write our reviews for games? As a forum post? It would be cool to have them show on a game's profile so everyone looking at that game would be able to see the discussion happening on the site. |

No need to apologize, I don't think the intent was clearly stated and you had the ability to create one so it wasn't your fault :). I think the thoughts section of games gives the opportunity for users to post reviews but it doesn't give you the options for editing your text like the articles do. I'm sure moho will come up with something to satisfy the need. |

I just like writing slightly more in-depth reviews (or reflections) on the games I play. If it makes sense to have those in the thoughts section, I can put them there, but, if my Kirby review were a thought, it might be a bit long-winded for a thought. |

Why curator-only? I don't really have an opinion either way since I'm probably never going to write one, but utilization of said feature has been somewhat lacking and now has some new life with the more recent activity. I'm good with whatever the decision is, but thought I'd ask. |

As a Curator, I'm also more open to public Articles to all users. I think however, if a middle ground needs to be met, maybe as Curators we could have the power to flag / remove them if they were ever deemed or considered inappropriate (for whatever reason). That way, there could still be a little bit of authority present, while still giving new users the opportunity to blurb. |

One way we could work this would be that someone needs to ask permission to unlock article posting powers. If we want, we can establish some guidelines regarding what does and doesn't fly (inappropriate images, hate speech, etc...) That way, we can always revoke access to the feature to anyone who isn't playing ball or otherwise being a douchebag. Alternatively, we could set up a section in the forums where people can post articles that are a WIP to receive feedback, etc... and once completed, if they meet moho_00 (or curator, however we roll with this) approval, can be elevated into a full-blown article that appears on the front page. Lot of options we can go with here, those are just the ones off the top of my head.

The curator-only thing makes sense to me since it could easily become a place for spam or just shit you don't want on the site. But @dhobo has a great idea too. |

Addressing this is on my radar and I think I'm going to add a new bit of security that will grant certain users access to create articles. This will be standalone from whether or not you're a curator. I like the idea of having a dedicated forum for the users that can create articles, so we'll do that too! I'm thinking the articles section on the Home page should be revisited as well. I'm thinking maybe it should be more like the other sections where we show the most recent x entries, rather than trying to get one per user. Any thoughts? |

I agree that it makes more sense to have the articles section more in line with other sections. It worked well to show the latest article per user when there were only about 5 article-writers, but now there are more. As that continues to grow it just makes sense to show more recent entries (than, for example, to keep showing my old one despite it being my personal latest article :P). |

I'm implementing this change right now, so by default, NOBODY will have access to create articles. Please let me know (curators included) if you would like access! |

If you guys liked my Kirby article, I'd loved to be able to write more long winded articles like that on this site. I'd love to do a game review for all of the bounties and missions I'm doing as well as just different thoughts about games in general. |

@gamerlance - You should now have access to the articles feature! As of right now, it's just me and you. Any other takers? |

I don't write regularly, but I do enjoy writing a good piece from time to time. |

I'm still trying to figure out a format for the articles/guides I'd like to create next. Will probably be a bit before I'll need access again. |

Not a curator here, but any chance to get Article access? I have 25 years of material. |

Sorry to bother you moho, is there a secret to getting headers or images into articles? I'm adding the HTML in but it doesn't see to be taking it. :-) |

No problem, for articles (and forum posts, among other things), the site uses Markdown for styling things. I've sort of customized it a little bit, mainly by adding additional things like embedding images / videos, but the general Markdown syntax should work for you. Here's a cheat sheet for you. Again, there might be some things that won't work, but that should cover the basics. For the more custom stuff, you can use these:
That should help get you started, but let me know if you have any further questions. Oh and as you've already noticed, HTML will not work |
