I've wanted to play this game for so long and despite starting it a couple of times in the past, I've never managed to stick with it. I thought maybe a bounty and the possibility of others in the community joining up would motivate me to finally finish it I started over the weekend and I'm about 6 hours into the game, which is further than I've ever made it. Sadly, I didn't play this one back in the '90s, though I was aware of it. I was in a brief period where I didn't really get into many RPGs as I don't think I even owned one for my Genesis (my main console at the time). This game looked neat and all, but I never picked it up. I now have it as part of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on Xbox 360 and although I miss holding my Genesis controller, I'm pretty pleased with how it plays. Although it's an old school JRPG, the game seems to have held up pretty well and has some neat ideas for the time. I especially like the macro system, which goes a long way in speeding through random battles that normally slow things down in this type of game. Having androids is a neat twist too since the normal healing spells / items don't work on them. And the soundtrack is awesome. |

I blasted through the game using fast forward on my PSP's Genesis emulator. I own it on PC but I just didn't feel like sitting in front of my PC playing it the whole time and fast forward made all of the difference. Pretty solid JRPG, nothing too frustrating about it and I agree that it holds up. LOVED the manga-style cut scenes, really added a lot of flair to the narrative and seemed novel both now and at the time. Really surprised to see more RPG games not adopting alternate methods other than cut scenes to drive the narrative. Seems like the perfect venue to try alternate methods of storytelling. |
