Hopefully I don't come across as too nit-picky, but it'd be nice for announcement banners at the top of the site to be able to be closed by the user.

Maybe have it set a cookie to remember that the user closed it, using a unique identifier so that your next announcement wouldn't render as hidden right away?

I get around it using uBlock to hide the div, but I don't know that the average user would know how to do that.

Cheers,
Merph

I've been wanting to implement a proper announcements component that would be similar to how social media sites work, meaning there would be an icon (like an alarm bell or something) in the header that would somehow indicate that there are new announcements for you to view. You would be able to hover / click on the icon to see them all, so they wouldn't need to be in the header like the one we have at the moment. I think we could also use this hypothetical new feature for informing users when new bounties / articles are posted, things that don't happen too often, but can be overlooked. I could add some account settings so you can opt out of certain ones if you're not interested in them or something (though important things like the site being down for maintenance will probably be required to show up hehe).

It's all a matter of finding the time to implement it
