(Sorry, couldn't resist the title.) I've reported an issue before with the Steam importer where it keeps wanting to import my copy of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD as just plain Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. It never got fixed, so finally I let it add it as that just so the importer would quit virtually bugging me about it. Now I've found a similar issue: Jotun: Valhalla Edition is a game a lot of people have because it was given away for free on just about every service out there. However, with the Steam version, even though Valhalla Edition is in the database, the importer wants to import it as just plain Jotun. It may be a bit pedantic of me, but I want my collection to only include games I actually have. Can we get these fixed some time in the near future? |

The problem here is that Steam (or perhaps, more accurately, developers / publishers) re-purpose certain game IDs. The way the import works is if a game is missing, I record the Steam ID in the Completionator database as a "missing" game. I then manually go in and find the correct game on Completionator and map it to the Steam ID (adding new games, as needed.) With Jotun (and Stranger's Wrath), Steam issued a certain ID (323580 for Jotun.) I have that mapped here on Completionator to Jotun. At some point though, Jotun: Valhalla Edition was released and rather than treating it as a separate SKU, it just replaced the old Jotun entry in Steam. This presents a couple of issues for us here:
The only thing I can think of at the moment is perhaps when these situations are encountered, I can make the change on the import mapping and we have a sticky thread or something to alert everyone about the situation. That would then provide guidance on if they want to manually remove the original game from their library (since the new one will be pulled in next time.) I could also put something on the mapping itself so it's flagged as being one of these situations and maybe highlight that when you run the import or something. |

The last idea would probably work the best for the end user. But unless there's a lot of these cases out there, I'm probably better off sucking it up and stopping my whining. ;) I honestly thought this was just a "fell through the cracks" matter when I made this thread. |
