Well, what do you know, another retro release and another giveaway This time we have PowerSlave (also known as Exhumed), which was made available digitally for the first time ever just a few days ago on GOG: https://www.gog.com/game/powerslave In my review for the Saturn version, I mentioned a digital release had been announced, but that it had (presumably) hit a few snags, so it's nice to see it's finally available. The version on GOG is the original DOS release and it's quite a bit different from the console versions, but it's still nice to see it released in ANY capacity. According to the press release, Nightdive Studios will be releasing an enhanced version of the game at some point in the future, though I haven't seen anymore details beyond that. Originally, I was under the impression that they were releasing PowerSlave EX, which was a port of the console version (PS1, specifically, if I remember correctly) to PC, so not sure that's still on the table or what. Generally speaking, the DOS version seems to be considered the weakest of the bunch since it drops the whole Metroidvania approach, but hey, someone can have a free key and check it out! To enter this giveaway, all you need to do is post your favorite '90s FPS in this thread. I'll randomly select a winner from those that participate. You have until 11:59 PM EST on 11/28/20 to enter!

I'm tempted to roll with Doom, but I'm gonna give it to Quake II instead if only because of the soundtrack. Don't count this as an entry, I just wanted to participate in the discussion! |

I'll have to go with Duke Nukem 3D myself. It wasn't strictly FPS, but Descent was another of my absolute favorites. |

My favorite game by far is Blood. I played it when I was very very young, kind of forgot about it until a few years later when I rediscovered it on an abandonware site and since then it's been a game I replay at least once every couple of months. Powerslave is up there too, both the DOS version and the console versions. I would absolutely love to own this on gog and I almost shed a tear when I saw it there when it came out. It's about time it finally got at least some recognition :P I had to borrow a copy from a friend for a bit, doing some testing and stuff on it. I'm going to make an in depth youtube video on this version specifically sometime next week (hopefully) for its anniversary, so it would be cool to have this. But if not, that's totally okay and I hope it goes to someone else that appreciates this little gem. \m/ |

No problem at all! I actually just ended up making a huge review of the game today. :P And gotcha, it does mention the dehacker patch on there but no GDX. There's another one based on "EDuke32" (Ion Fury engine) called PC Exhumed that you could also check out, but I think GDX is less buggy, more accurate, and overall better in the current state. |
