Age of Empires isn't bad for it, especially the first one (second one and third start to get into theoretical history or even outright propaganda, approach with caution)
Empire Earth Series.

The first two Call of Duty's and Battlefield 1942 for WW2 stuff.

The Total War Series as a whole as well as the Civilization series.

Any of these recommendations are best if you read their manuals as well. Treat these as a spark to dig deeper though, not as a matter of fact.

If you are interested in Chinese / Japanese History, Kou Shibusawa's games might do the trick (Nobunaga's Ambition for Japanese History - Romance Of The Three Kingdoms for Chinese) They have been declining in action game called Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors.
(KS Also made other history game back in the retro days (like "L'Empreur" for Napoleonian times and Operation Europe: Path to Victory for WW2)
