Hi, I'm considering migrating from GameFAQs, which has always been a quick and easy couple of clicks to this site, which is much more thorough (not a bad thing!). And of course GameFAQs doesn't have an export feature so this has to be done by hand. Right now the workflow I have come up with is: This is fine, I understand the need of separation between the Collections database and the Playthroughs database. But if I haven't completed a game things get trickier. Now instead of adding a Completion I have to have a separate tab open to the Playthroughs page and add the game as a new playthrough and then add in a time marker indicating how much of the game I've played in hours. This leaves me with no way to rate the game or add all the other info that is part of a Completion. If it's a game I've dropped intentionally and have no plans to play again I see that I can "archive" the playthrough to show that I'm not actively playing it, but I still feel unsatisfied. I understand philosophically some people believe you can't rate a game accurately until you've beaten it, but personally I like to know whether I played it and disliked it or I actually liked it and might want to go back to it later. Sure, I could put that in the notes, but that's rather inefficient. tl;dr I would like to more efficiently add intentionally unfinished games and be able to rate unfinished games. Is there some button or step I'm missing? |

I'm not sure my way is the best, but if you own the game, in your collection tab, you can click on the title of the game in blue and it brings up your various details for that specific game. there you can rate the game and can rate it/mark it as retired/never playing/ N/A, may be even add a custom tag. If you do not have it in your collection the best you can do is the archive or "on hold" feature, or just delete the previous playthrough records for games you do not believe you will get back to. Sorry if I could not be any more assistance! |

The method that @IVT laid out is probably the "correct" way, however, there is a bit of a hack that you can use to enter ratings (and difficulties). When you're entering a completion and you set a rating / difficulty score, you should see a little "saved" message pop up. When that happens, your score has been recorded in the database. You don't actually have to save the completion for it to persist. You won't necessarily be able to see it, unless you add it to your collection or whatever. I do have some changes on the docket for the Quick Add modal and among them is to actually merge it with the Quick Edit modal, which means rating and difficulties will likely be available on adds at some point. I don't anticipate any of these changes coming until 2023 though. It's part of a much larger initiate that for now I'll be incredibly vague on A few other notes / thoughts that might help you as you get acclimated to the site (welcome, by the way!):

Thanks for the quick responses! I didn't even notice that the Quick Add and Quick Edit menus are currently slightly different. Thanks @IVT that method will probably work fine for the ratings. @moho_00 I appreciate the flexibility of the different modules since I'm not a speedrunner/100% completionist type of gamer. Playthroughs definitely makes more sense if you are starting a new game to track start and finish dates & completion time going forward. It's more important to me to have an archive of what I have and where because my memory isn't so good ?? I use LibraryThing.com for my book/manga/comics collection, so that is kind of what I am comparing this site to. They have "Reading dates" and "Acquired date" and "Acquired from" fields in their item-level records. I'll give the Browse by Platform option a try, since I don't really have that many different platforms to begin with. I suspect that typing everything into a text file to batch import won't save much time overall. |
