I've wanted to play this game ever since I first heard of it as a "spiritual successor" to Solei/Crusader of Centy, which is one of my favourite games from my childhood. In fact, after moving to Japan I finally bought my Sega Saturn just for this game and Story of Thor 2. I had dabbled with it on emulation many years ago, but it was very patchy back then and my language was not up to the task. I did eventually play some but my initial impressions were disappointing. Soleil it was not. I had too may other games to play and it has sat on my shelf for many years now. Decided to add it to my resolutions challenge for 2025 and here we are. I figured now I've accepted it's not the second coming of my beloved Solei maybe I can just enjoy it for it's own merits. 2 hours into the game now and beat the first dungeon and I'm already having alot more fun with. It does have some glaring issues though already. Mostly the the protagonist moves incredibly slow and the weapon range is abysmal. Combat feels like a right chore and I sorely miss the speed and sword throwing skill from Soleil. I'm hoping things will improve a bit as it goes on as I really love the music and graphics and tone of the game. I'm also reminding myself how old this game is. 1996 is a very early time still when that generation was still in infancy. The leap between 1997-2000 was like no other. I love the mixture of 2D sprites and 3D models and overall I'm having a fun time. |
