Anime games ?
Total Votes: 0

As someone who likes watching anime even though he doesn't watch many original non mainstream shows, i've come with the idea to think about if anime games are that good or bad.
Unfortunately, a part of them were originally unavailable in USA or Europe as they were too japanese for our dumb brains. But nowadays as animes gained more and more popularity widely due to internet we can now get access to many anime games.

The general quality is decent although it varies among the franchises and that not all animes had obtained a good game. So with some experience, here's my opinion :

Dragon Ball = among the best, very original and incorporate a wide array of different characters even the least known ones

Naruto = idk since i never got into Naruto but from what i heard they're pretty good

One Piece = Varies but some fighting games were good although i only played burning blood

Fairy Tail = i love this anime but it never got that good games and should have deserved more carefulness. We only got two games that aren't that good.

Hunter x Hunter = I could only play Nen impact which was released a month ago and it's quite bad although not that awful. But one of my hearts franchises deserved better.

Seven Deadly Sins = they all suck. Poor, rushed fighting games which quickly give you boredom and i quickly forgot them.

For the rest i don't know as i either never got interested into the other animes or never heard about.

Don't hesitate to share your opinion.

Based on the ones I've played and seen bits of, I feel they have broadly the same distribution as other sorts of licensed games. Which is to say there's lots of cheap trash made to cash in on a popular name, a lot of stuff that is unremarkable but potentially worth playing if you're a big fan of the particular source material, and then a smaller percentage of titles that are quality games made with real care and love that appeal well beyond already established fans. I think as with all licensed games there's tons of crap to wade through, but there are plenty of good titles out there too, and I wouldn't turn my nose up at something just because it was an anime or manga license.

Off the top of my head, I really like Treasure's fantastic Astro Boy game for the GBA, Ghost in the Shell on PS1, and the Magic Knight Rayearth game for Saturn. And I was very fond of Sailor Moon: Another Story on SNES back in high school despite never finishing it. There are quite a few more recent ones I'm keen to play too, such as the Fist of the North Star-themed Yakuza title and Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth (Lodoss War was a novel series to begin with, to be fair, but the franchise is very much in the anime and manga wheelhouse).
