My Top 10 games played in 2020
Description
My list is obviously biased. I might rank games I have spent more time with higher not because they are necessarily better games, but because they brought me more fun. Pitting completely different games against each other is hard. There were many great games that I only played for so little, I couldn't justify placing them in the top 10.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Despite never having played Minecraft, this game just sucked me in for hours on end. The story was good, though I preferred to just wander around and do whatever I wanted. It's not very demanding and thus not all that mentally stimulating, so I liked to combine it with some podcasts. Still, I just never got bored of it.
Hades
I wouldn't have expected to love a game of this genre so much. I bought this on a whim and ended up playing for like 2 weeks straight. And petting the dog, A LOT. Surely, it was frustrating at times, but I still want to keep playing to know more of the other characters' stories.
A Short Hike
Late to the party, but one weekend I wanted a game that I could finish within a day or two and played this one. The pixel graphics and the gameplay is simple, but I found the overall experience very immersive and relaxing and I laughed way more at the simple dialogues than I would have expected. Gliding through the sky while listening to beautiful music to take your mind off things was great for this year.
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt
Finally jumped on the bandwagon and played it at the start of the year. I was enjoying it for a while, but stopped playing at some point though I don't really know why. Maybe I should get back into it. Would probably rate it higher if I didn't drop it and it ran better on my weak computer.
Stardew Valley
I keep coming back to it when I don't know what to play and don't want a game that takes much focus. And then I get stuck in the loop of telling myself "just one more day". The only reason I don't rate it even higher is because I didn't experience many new things anymore this year, since I have played it for such a long time already.
Pokémon Shield
Not the best game I played this year, but still fun especially since I played it at the same time with a few friends. Also paired that with podcasts to avoid understimulation. I thought about getting the DLC, but now that I've put it down, I don't really feel any desire to go back to it.
Bastion
I'm not very far along, but having played so much of Hades inspired me to finally play this game that I once bought and stopped playing after it crashed and the save was lost an hour or so into the game. Didn't spend nearly as much time as say forager, but it's just a pleasant overall experience and I want to keep going to discover the story.
Forager
I admittedly spent way to much time on this cutie of a game. Though I stopped when it started to feel like a grinding chore. It was fun while it lasted to explore the islands, puzzles and crafting trees.
Unrailed!
My new (slightly less stressful) alternative to Overcooked for playing with friends. But the same catch with the internet problems as overcooked. I wish I could have played more of it this year. I want to make it past the snowy lands.
Overcooked! 2
It just makes me laugh everytime I get to play it with friends, though it's just admittedly better in Couch Co-op than over the internet. So I ended up playing less of it.
