Bottom 10 Games I Played Through in 2021
Description
You all know my best games of 2021, now here's the worst. Just because this is a "Bottom" list doesn't mean all the games on here are awful. These are just the ones I disliked/was disappointed by the most in 2021. List is in REVERSE order.
Serious Sam 4
My #10 worst in 2021. Not a terrible game. The weapons were fun to use and the combat was just like old-school games. The ability to dual wield was comedic but added a nice dimension to the game. It's just unoptimized, Sam while not as charming is starting to feel a bit generic, and the difficulty got too frustrating at points.
Devil May Cry 2
My #9 worst in 2021. Contrary to popular belief, I don't find DMC2 to be as bad as others think. It's not as DMC-y, and it's easier than other entries, but the music was still awesome and I liked the different items and weapons you could find to customize your character. It's the black sheep of the series but I still liked it!
Delver
My #8 worst in 2021. Primarily on this list because it was a barebones experience and it ended too quickly. I hope more content releases for this one soon, but otherwise it was severely disappointing and kinda frustrating.
Devour
My #7 worst in 2021. It is fun, for $5 you can't go wrong, but it needs serious work with difficulty rebalance, optimization and single-player capability. Definitely a thrilling good time though especially with friends!
Vaporum: Lockdown
My #6 worst in 2021. Also the last game on this list that I consider somewhat more good than bad. The first Vaporum was excellent, and this game has a lot of good qualities like better/satisfying combat, easier to navigate levels, and the lore was done well. I got tired of the puzzles FAST and your inventory gets filled too much too fast, and by that I mean the further you get into the game, the more the game becomes a boring slog of tedious puzzles. Overall, left an unsatisfactory taste in my mouth. If another game is released in the series, more focus on the combat/exploration would be swell.
Valheim
My #5 worst in 2021. Let me explain. The game is alright. Being "finishable" in EA is a big deal nowadays. It's just, for the amount of time this game is demanding from you there's not enough content to justify it unlike say, Terraria. It's grindy to the point of being straight-up a chore. The environments are interesting enough, but really bare and not a lot to explore. Progression is extremely linear and not that satisfying, and I can't let the devs slide on going back on their promise with the timeline. 4 big updates this year? Nah, let's do 1 'eh' update instead and go on a long vacation. I can't believe people are letting this slide. Probably the entry on this list I'm most disappointed in.
Wordle 2
My #4 worst in 2021. This is mostly for the 2nd game. The puzzles were too difficult and flat-out stupid. Have fun guessing fish types.
Train Station Renovation
My #3 worst in 2021. I got into this game after I dumped 60+ hours into House Flipper and was craving something new. Unfortunately, TSR fails to deliver. The whole game feels like it's in early access beta. You have almost no options for decorating/designing the stations. I've had quite a few bugs during gameplay. The achievements are bugged and the dev knows about this. There IS a workaround but it's sloppy. To top it off, there's a PAID DLC being released soon while the game still has a plethora of issues.
LEGO Worlds
My #2 worst in 2021. This may be cheating a bit since I only put in a few hours, but I got bored/tired of this game so quickly that I didn't care. It's basically a scavenger hunt of finding objects to collect that you can recreate or play with on your own. It's very unsatisfying, boring, and unpolished. Imagine what could've been.
Lords of the Fallen
My #1 worst in 2021. Essentially a poor man's Dark Souls knockoff that got too boring and too frustrating too soon. I also quit this game a few hours in, but it left such a bad taste in my mouth. I'm also kicking myself because I overtraded too much for it a couple years ago, but that's not why this is ranked so low.
9th Dawn II: Remnants of Caspartia
(Dis)-Honorable Mention. It's not bad enough to be a top 10, but it's a contender. The soundtrack is excellent, the concept is fun, the gameplay is simplistic but not too boring, there's a lot of optional locations, and I like the skill system. However, it's extremely unbalanced (warrior with the best armor in the game still gets steamrolled thus 1/3 of your class choices is eliminated about 20% into the game), some skills take far too long to level, the difficulty spikes make the game frustrating, with no option to respec your stats, you either have to replay the game or cheat, and some of the design choices are just... bizarre. Why is there no minimap in any of the caves? Why do my summons disappear after a minute and then I have to wait another minute to respawn it? Why do warriors suck so bad in this game? Why do the final dungeons have platforming? Ugh.
