Description

My favourite JRPGs from a range of consoles.
I only added my favourite one from each series so as not to flood the stack.
In no particular order.

There are many more games I intend to play so if your favourite isn't here, let me know about it!

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga

This game (and its sequel since they are an inseparable duo) has my all-time favourite storylines in a JRPG. Coupled with Shin Megami Tensei's perfected battle style, this game is, without a doubt, my number one JRPG.

Persona 3 Reload

The best instalment in the Persona franchise, remastered with improved playability. It has a good story, good characters, challenging gameplay (on hard mode) and a wonderful soundtrack.

Metaphor: ReFantazio

From the director, artist and composer behind the (recent) Shin Megami Tensei games, this game is wonderful in terms of gameplay, imaginative in terms of characters and well-written in terms of storyline. This game feels more like reading an epic fantasy novel sprinkled with JRPG elements from the SMT franchise and I’m not complaining.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

An interesting story that does things a little differently from previous Fire Emblem games. Not a perfect cast but with so many characters, that would be hard to achieve.
Honourable Mention: Fire Emblem: Awakening

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl

The Etrian Odyssey series was already perfect in my eyes and then they added an all-new storyline and characters to it!
Honourable mention: Persona Q

Pokémon HeartGold

The original Pokémon Gold is a perfect game. Now imagine that but your Pokémon follows you around! I pray that one day we may have another Pokémon game with this feature.
Honourable mention: Pokémon Platinum; Pokémon Black

Yo-Kai Watch

A wonderful game with cute collectable monsters and a battle system that involves spinning a wheel. I really enjoyed the unique battle style and Yo-Kai designs even if the story itself was lacking (but it was made of children so I can't complain).

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (2005)

I'll admit, I've not played any other Dragon Quest games but this game is what makes me want to play more of them!
