List for 8th Annual Completionator Top 10

Honorable mention for the 11th

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

The most anticipated DLC for a game that made history. I must confess that when I first saw it, I was blown away.

As with the base game, I began exploring every corner of the map. When new enemies and NPCs appeared, I was curious about their design and mechanics.

The side quests for the NPCs, like in the base game, aren't very clear about where you are supposed to go to progress their stories, but I think I managed to complete at least two side quests.

The area I found most intriguing was, without a doubt, the Abyssal Woods. While it's true that the location is intense for some players, I personally enjoyed it because it deviates a bit from the usual locations I've seen so far in Elden Ring.

As is typical, the DLC offers new weapons, armor, spells, Ashes of War, etc., providing players with new combinations for their playstyles.

Although the map isn’t as large as the base game, there is still a lot to explore, but that depends on each player's preferences.

The new bosses are certainly challenging and fun to battle.

What I felt was missing from this DLC was the lack of achievements and alternate endings. I understand why they didn’t add more endings, as the DLC is an additional block to the base game and not the actual end of the game, since players can even skip this content if they wish.

As in the base game, dying many times is part of this DLC. So take the game lightly, because at the end of the day, what matters is having fun playing.

Hogwarts Legacy

OMG!!! What a game!!!!

I must confess that I have recently become a fan of the Harry Potter franchise. I am still reading the saga and watching the movies at the same time as I am finishing the books.

Fortunately, this game does not require knowledge of the story from the books, as it has a separate story.

The storyline in the game is so intriguing that it makes the player want to know more and more about what will happen next. Simultaneously, the open world of the game ensures that there are always things to do, such as puzzles, side quests, discovering new places, etc.

One suggestion I have is to progress a bit in the game for the sake of the Spells, as they will be necessary to help with extras if the player enjoys completing additional content.

An interesting aspect is that the game motivates players to engage in extra content because of the challenges. For example, if the player wants to increase their inventory, they have to complete a specific challenge to achieve it, among other rewards.

In this game, you can have your own "house" where you can decorate it as you like. Later, you can collect creatures, having various areas (which you can also decorate) where they can roam freely or even have babies.

Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the broom, which you can upgrade by completing challenges, helping with aerial transportation from one place to another. However, if you prefer mounts, you can use them too, but they do not have upgrades.

For me, what undoubtedly caught my attention in this game was the level of detail in the environment, the lighting, from sunrise to sunset, and the detail of each object as the player walks along the path. Many times I found myself walking through the terrain, appreciating the beautiful scenery until reaching the destination, because it feels like being inside the game. It's hard to explain.

For those who are fans of the Harry Potter world or those who have just become fans, you definitely should play this game.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (2023)

This volume 4 was one of the most anticipated for me to play, since I am a huge fan of this franchise. I saw walkthrough on YouTube but it's not the same thing, for me, I like to feel the emotion, the scares and listen to the game's soundtrack.

Once again the game's lore captivated me, where it shows three points of view as you progress through the game. I saw that they gave a better texture to the ghosts and characters, however I noticed that the textures of the environment and objects were a little lacking since I was waiting for everything to be redesigned. I noticed that sometimes the subtitles when listening to the tapes have a delay and because the game is in Japanese it can be a little confusing.

However, I can't help but thank you for bringing this volume to Europe and I hope that in the future you will also bring the first three volumes to PC.

If you like reading documents that you pick up throughout the game to understand the game's lore, getting scared when exploring in the company of a delightful soundtrack, then this is your horror game.

Persona 5 Royal

The player is a student who has been transferred to another location and school after an event that occurred in their life.

Over the course of a year, the player will meet various characters, each with their own personality and story that will be revealed through social interactions.

Some of the themes in the game are things we see happening in our real world.

I find the way the game is presented to the player interesting, though it may not be to everyone's taste.

I completed all the extra content in the game, which also includes multiple endings that depend on the level of social interaction with certain characters and the choices made at the end of the game.

What has captivated me and continues to do so in this franchise are the various twists the game has, and this installment definitely has some. But it’s not just that; it’s also the ability for the player to experience the day-to-day life of a Japanese student, where you have to answer questions correctly in class, take exams and pass them, and decide how to spend your time, whether reading, playing games, exercising, or engaging in other activities.

The game also has a section called "Thief Den," which focuses on the objectives the player needs to complete in the game, essentially "Achievements."

Perhaps the part some players might not like is how long the game can become.

However, I think that anyone who has never played the game should give it a chance.

Dark Souls III

The third volume of this beautiful franchise.

In this volume, players can see that the game's graphics are already better compared to the previous titles. I must confess that some locations left me speechless due to the detail the developers put into them.

The game mechanics are not different from the other volumes. The game's story is linear, and like in the previous titles, it isn't very clear. This can leave the player confused, potentially leading them to abandon the game if they are focused on the story.

However, this volume introduces the concept of Mana, which was not present in the previous installments.

The bosses in the game are generally interesting, though I found that accessing the DLC is not very intuitive. It’s easy to skip over the extra content.

In my opinion, the price of the game plus the DLCs is too high, and even with a good promotion, the bundle rarely drops below €30. So it's worth waiting or looking around for the best purchase price.

Last Epoch

A Diablo-style game with a concept I found interesting: traveling between eras.

I must confess that this feature caught me by surprise in a positive way, because out of all the Diablo-style games I've played, this is the first one with this concept.

While it's true that the story itself is nothing special, the level of customization for each class offers endless possibilities tailored to each player's style.

I only tried the Necromancer class and looked up a build since I'm not very good at creating one. Each class has passive and active skills that can be combined to suit each player's playstyle.

The transition the game makes to the end-game content is a bit confusing. So when you reach the MONOLITH Quest, you are already in the end game.

I found the Monolith interesting, where each island has its own timeline and various paths leading to the island's final Boss. Each island has its level and difficulty, which is a good challenge for those looking for one.

Now that I’ve finished the main story of the game, I will try out the other classes and the cycle option the game offers.

I think it’s an interesting game to play if you’re a fan of the Diablo style.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road

The latest chapter of ESO. I must confess that the autumnal setting of this chapter surprised me a lot. I really enjoyed the orange and red colors and the location.

This chapter introduced the new Scribing system, which I admit I haven’t explored much yet, but I did complete the side quest to unlock it.

As with other chapters, there are side quests to complete before advancing to the main story of the chapter.

I found the story of this chapter interesting, and I completed 100% of the map.

For fans of the franchise or those just starting, I think they should play this new chapter.

Thymesia

A game similar to Dark Souls that, in my opinion, has an interesting story.

I also found the gameplay engaging since the player can have various weapons at their disposal to match their playstyle.

As with any Dark Souls-style game, there is a learning curve for mastering the mechanics of each Boss in the game.

The game has three main areas, each with side quests for the player to complete if they wish.

This game has multiple endings but does not have the New Game Plus option like Dark Souls and Elden Ring. However, it does offer the option to go back before finishing the game, where you can face the final Boss multiple times.

The game's achievements are not very difficult to obtain, but they can take some time depending on the player's skill.

For fans of the Souls-like genre, I think this game is a good option to play.

The Lords of the Fallen

Oh my, where should I start.

I played Lord of the Fallen which came out in 2014, I liked the story, but the game mechanics left a little to be desired and when they announced this game I even thought it was a remake of the first one, nowadays that's what's in fashion .

But no, it's a new game within the world of the first game, which is fantastic, the design of the levels, the lighting, the enemies, the scenarios, whether in the real world or in the world of the dead.

I found the lamp feature very interesting, despite being a bit stressful because there is a time limit to walk there before the enemies start to become too much, until it becomes deadly.

There are small puzzles in the game to do which require the use of the lamp or even going to the world of the dead to solve.

The method of acquiring the "runes" in this game is interesting because in the world of the living the multiplier is normal, but in the world of the dead the multiplier increases depending on the time the player stays on that side, of course it is more beneficial but at the same time time is dangerous.

There are some NPCs in the game that you can interact with and help them. It's true that there is no way of knowing what they need or where they are going, but other than that I found them interesting.

I found the story of the game itself interesting. It's not an epic story, but an interesting one.

I confess that the navigation in this game is quite confusing, to the point that I needed to look to a guide to guide me. And the last battle I found a little boring.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

A game that caught me off guard when it came to gameplay and was a little out of the ordinary for Monster Hunter games. However, there is a need to craft and upgrade gear and weapons.

A game with a little pokemon flavor, where we can collect and train various monsters, where there are different types of dens to enter and get the egg.

There are several locations to explore and the way the story is told is fascinating in my opinion.

There are several side Quests to do during the game and post end game to do after finishing the Main Story, if the player wants to do.

Perhaps the only bad thing is that you need to know what happened in the first game to even understand at all what is happening in the second game, but other than that I think the game is a good title to play.

Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery

A small animated game where the player takes the role of a painter, where throughout the game through puzzles the game shows a captivating story.
