Tarzanslam's Top 10 Games Played in 2025
Description
2025 was a revival of sorts for me in gaming. With work not being as stressful as it had been over the last few years, I've been able to focus some more time on playing games. I was able to finish more games than I have been able to for a long time. I hope you enjoy my top 10 of 2025.
Final Fantasy XV
I spent a few years trying to beat Final Fantasy 15 and it showed up on a few other Top 10 lists of years past but I finally was able to beat this gem this year. I miss the story of Noctis, Gladioius, Ignis and Prompto. Maybe one day I'll play one of the several side stories related to this game. I loved the open world the story and the dynamic relationships the 4 guys had throughout the game. It may not be the most favorite Final Fantasy but it is with me.
Balatro
I picked this game up first on the Xbox on Game Pass then later bought it on mobile so I could play it on the go. A wonderful rogue like card game that's addictive and fun. Oh and the music is top notch. It's only one song but man, as the yougin's say, it slaps. Heck the song was stuck in my head for weeks at one point. Very fun and if you haven't played it yet, you should.
Vampire Survivors
This game is another addictive one that I don't fully understand but I have fun with it. I have played this off and on throughout the year and have still not beat the first level of the game. But I have so much fun just running away from all the bats, zombies and giant preying mantises.
Firewatch
I picked this up on Steam a few years ago and finally go to playing it this year and I really enjoyed the plot on this one. The ending felt a bit rushed but I didn't let that affect how I felt about the rest of the story. This was another game I finished in 2025.
Final Fantasy XVI
I am currently working on Final Fantasy 16. This one is a bit darker than Final Fantasies of the past. Also the language used is outside of the norm for the FF franchise but the overall story is good and the visuals are amazing. This installment of FF does seem a bit easier than past games but it may ramp up as I complete more of the game.
Guild Wars 2
This is another game I've been playing for years and has shown up on past Top 10 lists. This is one of those games I keep revisiting, mainly because there's just so much to do in the game. From the massive map, all the expansions, all the main quests, side quests, weapons and armor and all the special events, it's hard to walk away from such an engaging game. If you like MMOs and especially ones you don't have to pay a monthly subscription fee for, I would highly recommend checking out Guild Wars 2.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
This was one of the first games I finished in 2025 that I spent most of 2024 playing. I love everything Legend of Zelda and this was another masterpiece. I'm looking forward to the next installment one day.
Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda
This is another game I finished in 2025. I played it in years past but would get stuck or I would put it down for a while and come back and forget how to play and start over. This year I told myself I couldn't play anything else until it was beaten. I really enjoyed my time with this one. I need to try and do the same with the original Crypt of the NecroDancer game next.
A Short Hike
I played and finished this game all while flying on a plane to and from vacation this year. It's a great little short game with interesting puzzles. I recommend hitting this one up if you're looking for a game to keep you busy for a few hours. Long plane or car rides would be perfect for this one.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (2024)
I played the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong on the Game Boy Advance several years ago and had a blast with it. It's no surprise that with updated graphics and controls that I would have just as much fun. The puzzles are challenging but not too hard until you get deep in the end game and then some can get frustrating but overall is a great time.
