Description

The Nintendo Wii is known for having a handful of amazing titles and also a ton of shovelware...but lying in the shadows, the Wii actually had some very fun titles that get completely overlooked. Here are 10 hidden gems for the Nintendo Wii in no particular order.

1

The Munchables

This colorful game is a hybrid of Katamari and Feeding Frenzy. The basic premise is that you take control of a "Munchable" and go around eating as much as you can, increasing greatly in size along the way. The game implements some unique ideas, has varied worlds and locations, and has some very fun boss fights. Definitely worth checking out if you like random puzzle platformers.

Lost in Shadow

Lost in Shadow is a game I was really anticipating greatly in the months leading up to its release. And I was not disappointed by it. This game is one of the more unique games that I have ever played. The whole you actually play as the shadow of a boy. The game is a adventure platformer that has some really cool puzzles that revolve around shifting light and objects to change the shadows. The game also has an Ico feel to it which I love as Ico is one of my favorite games. I definitely recommend this game to anyone who is looking for something different for their Wii.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

Another game that I had really anticipated and kept my eye on for months leading up to its release. When it was released it was met with pretty mediocre reviews and I was somewhat disappointed. Then when I finally received my copy in the mail and played it I disagreed with the reviews. While I understand where they were coming from in criticizing the controls and other things, this game left a pretty lasting impression on me. It is an action RPG with light horror elements to it. I really enjoyed the story and the art style of the game.

Opoona

Opoona is another unique title in this list. You play as a kid who's parents get kidnapped and it's your job to save them. The whole battle system is played with the nunchuck and revolves around throwing a bon-bon at your enemies. The game has several different jobs that you can do to earn money and the game showcases a nice cel-shaded graphical style. But probably the best aspect of this game is it's soundtrack. It's absolutely incredible.

Endless Ocean

One of the first games I got for my Wii, Endless Ocean is less of a game and more of an experience. The whole experience is playing as a scuba diver looking for hidden treasure and interacting with aquatic life. This is definitely not a game for everyone and many people find the slow pace boring and unappealing. But for those that have a little patience and aren't scared to try a game that isn't focused on violence and high scores, you will find a very rewarding tranquil and rewarding experience. There is actually a sequel to this game as well and the sequel is actually probably even better.

One Piece: Unlimited Adventure

As a person who has never watched an episode of One Piece in my life, I wasn't sure if this is a game I would enjoy or not. And I am happy to say that you do not need to be a One Piece fan to enjoy this game. It is a very fun action RPG with many different characters to play as, all with different abilities. As far as the story goes, I have no idea where it falls in the One Piece timeline or if it even does at all, but that didn't hinder my playing it at all. This game used to be one of the harder Wii games to find but in the past year or so, it has significantly dropped in price. Check this one out if you are in the mood for a solid action RPG!

Kid Adventures: Sky Captain

Easily overlooked by the kiddy looking game cover, this game is actually a very solid and fun flight simulator similar in vain to pilot wings for the 3DS and the flight mode in Wii Sports Resort. Keep in mind this game is not going to blow your socks off when you play it and graphically it's not very impressive at all, but the control is great and there are lots of places to explore. If you see this one out in the wild for cheap, give it a shot you might enjoy it!

Little King's Story

Do you enjoy Pikmin? Do you enjoy Animal Crossing? If you answered yes to these question, then you will definitely enjoy Little King's Story. You play as a little boy who is thrust into the role of king. You are tasked with growing your kingdom and exploring adjacent lands, all to further your kingdom and protect it from harm. Along the way you will defeat bosses, pick upgrades for your town, recruit new skilled laborers to join your team, and much more. I can't recommend this game enough, as it is criminally underrated.

Let's Tap

Let's Tap is a collection of mini-games that all revolve around, as you may have guessed it, tapping. But there is really only one mini-game to buy this for: Tap Runner. Tap Runner is basically an obstacle course that you navigate all by simply tapping. Think Donkey Kong Jungle Beat...but then tone down your expectations. The reason I call this a hidden gem is because if played with 4 players, you will have a lot of fun. At least myself and my friends did. The only downfall is that after about a half hour of playing, you will need to take a break as your fingers and hands will probably be hurting. Take a chance on it if you see it on your game hunting trips!

Pirates Plundarrr

If a game is the best available shovelware title out there, does that make it a good game? While you ponder this deep philosophical question let me tell you about this game. It definitely is a shovelware title and can be purchased for well under $5. But this game is one the better shovelware titles that you can get for the Wii. It definitely takes great inspiration from games like Castle Crashers as it is a 4-player beat em' up. That's really all I can say about it though. I paid $1 and got about 30 minutes of enjoyment out of it. Is that bad or good?
