Just a list to track any games finished in 2021

Final Fantasy

PS3 Version. Finished within 20 hours. Fun trip down memory lane. Save file was almost 7 years old and had only just beaten Garland, figured it was time to finished the journey started so long ago. Using my own Name for the Warrior and my two closest friends to take the role of Thief and Black Mage and my girlfriend at the time of creating the file filled her role as White Mage.

Star Soldier

Switch Online Version. Only took just over an hour to finish. Pretty funny shooter with a decent challenge. My only issue with the game is the boss fleeing within ten second only to make you rerun the stage. the boss doesn't run the second time but will fire more projectiles which makes things more difficult. Playing this on the switch allowed me to use save states which I only really used to redo boss fights to beat them within the ten second threshold.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sisters Generation

Psvita Version. Finding Nepgear more appealing then her sister Neptune I decided to play Rebirth 2 first seeing as how the story is very loosely connected and I've been on and off playing the games since the original Hyperdimension Neptunia released on the PS3. The overload of Quest and Plans kept me revisiting locations long after completing them just to grind out items for fulfill said request. The redone combat system for Rebirth 2 is just the right of strategy with character placement but open enough to just say the hell with it and bum rush enemies as well. I found this game to be very dialogue heavy with most of it being trivial character development and little to push the story along. The story was good but I wouldn't say it pushed itself since this series isn't known for being serious. I do wish however that they would switch up the bosses though. Having fought the same boss at least 5 times through the story and pretty close together each time started to drag. Overall I enjoyed it for what its worth and I can see why people love the series but sadly I don't fall into that camp of hardcore fans.

Detective Pikachu

3DS Version. I wanted to play this after seeing the movie several years ago to see how close they relate. the short answer is kinda, not really. Both follow the story of the R drug and Mewtwo being a key figure but beyond that they follow there own story beats. I wanted to really like this game since I've been a huge pokemon game since I was a kid but this really didn't grab me like i had hoped. Baby's first Professor Layton is the best way to describe it. gameplay boils down to talk to everyone and piece pictures together with the occasional hit 'A' at the right time for a quick time event.

Little Nightmares

Xbox One Version. I remember watching so many videos around the story and lore of Little Nightmares but never got the nerve to drop the 5 bucks to grab it whenever I saw it on sale. Well I guess my laziness paid off because I was able to get it for free with Xbox Live's free games each month. I was really excited to jump in and see things for myself. Story is vague at best by leaving it all up to interpretation. Gameplay is stressful, in the right way, since im a huge chicken at horror games. Stealth is key with trying to navigating around bizarre creatures and the panic that sets in whenever they hear your or spot you.

Candy Crush Saga

PC Version. I don't really have much to say about this one. I definitely wasnt going to play all 8000 levels. I played to just over 100 to kill sometime before jumping into the next game. Pallet cleanser is the way to describe why I played this one.

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series

Xbox One Version. I played this one a few years ago but decided to play the Xbox One copy i had. visuals are a watercolor like background that just looks blurry. with gameplay I just did the opposite of what i chose when i played it last with the only difference being one two more people died by the end of the game. This one wasnt nearly as enjoyable because ive realized telltales method of game design and i knew most if not all my actions were pointless.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Switch Version. This one came as a surprise. I really enjoyed Hyrule Warrior but never got lost in breath of the wild like everyone else. I was a little worried but elements like the sheikah slate would play into combat and watching the trailers made me think combat would be chaotic. Im very glad to say i was wrong, combat is smooth as butter, well with most characters, and learning to use the Sheikah slate outside of basic enemy counters can really turn the tide of battle. Musuo games are know for making the player feel like a one man army and while this game still does that its very toned down. instead of killing thousands of enemies i never found myself going over 400 and most of that was just smacking everything between point A and B. It feels like it focuses more on one on one battle with the bigger enemies and bosses. The story being s prequel to BOTW lets us see how things were before the calamity and due to spoilers gives us a version in which link wasnt defeated and put to rest for a 100 years.

The Walking Dead

Xbox 360 Version. This is a game ive picked away at for several years. I believe this is the best of the Telltale game's stories, Wolf Among Us being a very close second. My main issue with the game was with my save files. whether its the fault of the game or my console it was hit or miss if my save file would load or boot me back to episode one causing me to finish a full episode in one sitting to prevent restarting.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate

Xbox One Version. One of those games ive been picking at for about a year or so. Took me a while to get into the swing of things and start enjoying it but once all the tools were available to play with the world was my oyster and it took no time clearing areas and progressing through the story. Being able to adjust the difficulty was easy by avoiding upgrades that could make things a little easier (higher level units, extras on the map to use, etc.) while mainly focusing on the ones that earned more money and made shops cheaper before getting the rest and making the end game a cake walk. Overall i enjoyed my time with it even though it felt like twisting my arm to start playing it to begin with.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix

Switch Version. After hearing all the mixed reviews about the controls I didnt know what to think about picking this one up. I loved the original DS release and surprisingly finished the whole game in one weekend as a teenager. But i wanted to see what the new stuff was so i bunkered down and began playing only to realize... I could just take the joycons off and treat the switch like a tablet. This made the complaints null and void to me personally. Im mixed with using my switch in dock mode and really only do it if the game is more of a 'sit down game' but with TWEWY it was great to play on the go and simply using it as a tablet.

2064: Read Only Memories

PS4 Version. I really wanted to play this game for awhile. A cyberpunk setting with an intriguing mystery plot, whats not to like about that. So why did i find myself hating this game not even a quarter of the way in? It felt like it was shoving so many real world ideologies and views down my throat with little of it being related to the story that i felt like i was drowning. Everything felt forced and overstayed. the story became very lack luster with a evil that kinda popped out of nowhere in the end. I may not be able to word this right but i dont normally care about wanting representation in games but it all felt forced and over used in this game and i think it took away and hurt the overall story with the exception of maybe one used in the last act of the game depending on the route you took. Overall the only thing i liked about this game was the soundtrack.

I Expect You To Die

PS4 Version. As the name implies you will find yourself dying a lot as you attempt to figure out each mission. This is a fun VR distraction from other games

EarthBound

SNES Classic Version

Amnesia: Memories

Psvita Version
